Submit E&M Codes per the 2021 Coding Guidelines

You can submit a calculated or selected Evaluation and Management (E&M) code to the Superbill using the 2021 Coding Guidelines. Before you begin The date of the encounter must be on or after the effective start date entered for the 2021 Coding Guidelines on the Practice Configuration template. The visit type must be one of the visit types impacted by the 2021 guidelines. For more information on the 2021 Coding Guidelines, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the E&M Coding User Guide forNextGen®Adaptive Content Engine. Also, you must select an assessment in the Today’s Assessment panel to be able to submit an Evaluation and Management (E&M) code. For guidance on how to use the 2021 E&M Coding Guidelines based on Medical Decision Making (MDM) level and time, you can use the information Info Icon icon. For guidance on the level of complexity and risks involved in MDM, you can use the View MDM Guidelines link. From an encounter, select the Templates Template Icon icon.

Add Visit Code Modifiers

You can add or replace visit code modifiers. After you have calculated or selected a visit code on the Finalize (BH) template, the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine may add modifiers to the visit code based on coding rules. You can also manually add up to two modifiers for each visit code and edit the modifiers. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For a patient record, open a new encounter. Open the Finalize (BH) template. Expand the Evaluation and Management Coding panel. To add a modifier to a visit code, select Modifier(s) under the corresponding visit code, and then select a code from the list. Submit E&M Code Under 97 Coding Guidelines

Before you begin You must configure the 97 Coding Guidelines selected on the Practice Configuration practice template. For more information on the 97 Coding Guidelines, go to the NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the E&M Coding User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. Also, you must select an assessment in the Today’s Assessments panel to submit an E&M code. Open the Finalize template and then expand the Evaluation and Management Coding panel. Enter a start and end time. The duration calculates and displays in the corresponding field. When you enter a start and end time initially, the Time visit time (minutes) field updates with the same value. If you then edit the Time visit time (minutes) value and manually select an E&M code, the updated time overrides the original time entered. Select a Prolonged Time Code

You can select a prolonged time code to report time that surpasses the threshold for code 99205 or 99215 on the Finalize template. Before you begin You must calculate or manually select the visit code 99205 or 99215 in the Evaluation and Management Coding panel. You can report a time of more than 74 minutes for a new patient for code 99205, or more than 54 minutes for an established patient for code 99215. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Finalize template. On the Evaluation and Management Coding panel, select the first blank Visit code field. The Visit Code Service Category Name window opens. Enter Additional Visit Codes

You can enter two additional codes. The entered codes can be additional E&M codes, behavioral health codes, medicare preventive codes, or visit code service codes. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For a patient record, open a new encounter. Open the Finalize template. In Evaluation and Management Coding, do the following: To enter a visit code service code, select the second or third Visit code field, and then select a code from the list. Note: You can update the items in the Visit Code Service Category list in File Maintenance under Service Categories.
