Before you begin
You must configure the 97 Coding Guidelines selected on the Practice Configuration practice template. For more information on the 97 Coding Guidelines, go to the NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the E&M Coding User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine.
Also, you must select an assessment in the Today’s Assessments panel to submit an E&M code.
- Open the Finalize template and then expand the Evaluation and Management Coding panel.
- Enter a start and end time.
The duration calculates and displays in the corresponding field. When you enter a start and end time initially, the Time visit time (minutes) field updates with the same value. If you then edit the Time visit time (minutes) value and manually select an E&M code, the updated time overrides the original time entered.
- To document counseling, educational, and interpreter details, select the Counseling Details link.
- Calculate an E&M code.
- To enter additional visit codes, do one of the following:
- Select the second or third Visit code field and then select a code from the list.
Note: You can update the items in the Visit Code Service Category list in File Maintenance under Service Categories.
- To enter an E&M, a behavioral health, or Medicare preventive code, select the corresponding links and then select a code.
- To meet visit code criteria for Quality Reporting, select a SNOMED CT code.
- To override the calculated code, select an E&M code in the code options section at the bottom of the Evaluation and Management Coding panel.
Note: Code 99201 cannot be selected. The code expired on January 1, 2021.
- To generate a note, referral, lab order, requisition, or another document, select Generate Note.
- Select Submit Code.
A
Submitted message appears and the code displays in the
Billed Codes grid.
The application creates the Psychiatric Evaluation or Psychiatric Progress Note document or other required document based on your practice configuration for offline generation or the document configuration for a submitted code. - Remove a charge submitted in error.
