NDC Setup for Paper and Electronic Claims

Some payers require NDC information on claims. The following options are available for including NDC information on a claim: Electronic or Paper Claims - You can add or update the National Drug Code, Basis of Measure, or Drug Unit Count data. Electronic Claims - You can add NDC information. To include the NDC information on a claim, you must: Complete all of the appropriate fields in the NDC library. Enable the NDC functionality in the Payers master file for electronic claims. Enable the NDC functionality in the Claim Printing library for paper claims. Add or Modify a NDC Library

Use the NDC library to create new NDC libraries or modify existing libraries. Refer to the Importing a CSV File into the NDC Library procedure for instructions on how to import NDC codes from a Microsoft Excel® file. In File Maintenance, click Libraries from the List Launcher or the menu bar and then click NDC. The NDC List window opens. From the NDC List window, do one of the following: To add a new item, click Open Menu , and then click New. To modify an item, select the library that you want to open and then click Open Menu or double-click the selection. Note: The library with the green check mark is the default library for the practice. The NDC List Maintenance window opens. To search for an existing NDC code, use the Filter Criteria section and click one of the following options: NDC ID Description CPT4 Enter or modify the NDC information according to the following table. NDC Library in File Maintenance

The NDC (National Drug Code) library enables you to create an NDC drug product list to help you manage billing for drugs that are given in the clinic. In addition, the library enables you to define the relationships between NDC and CPT4 codes. NDC is a universal product identifier for human drugs. Each drug product listed is assigned a unique 11-digit, 3-segment number. This number, known as the NDC identifies the labeler/vendor, product, and trade package size. The NDC Library provides the capability to: Have multiple NDCs for a SIM Populate a claim with an NDC fromNextGen® Enterprise EHR Import NDCs from the published CMS list Display NDC codes from the NDC library on theDrugstab of theService Item Library Maintenancewindow. Add or Modify an NDC (National Drug Code) Library

NDC is a universal product identifier for human drugs. Each drug product listed is assigned a unique 11-digit, 3-segment number. This number, known as NDC identifies the labeler or vendor, product, and trade package size. Access to the NDC Library enables users to enter new NDC ID values to the library. A user only has access when the security right for the NDC Libraries module is selected (under MODULES > File Maintenance) for the group that the user is in. Open File Maintenance and select Libraries > NDC. The NDC List window opens. From the NDC List window, select the open menu button to add or open an existing NDC library. The NDC List Maintenance window opens. Search for an NDC code using the filter criteria. Enter or modify the NDC information manually. Note: In the Drug Unit Count column, enter the dosage form which is based on the second segment of the NDC number. This segment indicates a specific strength, dosage form, and formulation. Column Description NDC Id Enter the unique 11-digit, 3-segment National Drug Code number. If the number you have is not 11 digits, you must enter the necessary preceding zeros. Note: The system automatically formats the number when the charge is passed to NextGen® Enterprise PM. CPT4 Enter the CPT4 code associated with the NDC. You can enter up to nine characters with two modifiers. Eff Date Enter the date the NDC becomes effective. Note: The system automatically formats the number when the charge is passed to NextGen® Enterprise PM. If you entered an incorrect date and you want to move the cursor to the front of the cell, select the cell, and then select F2. Exp Date Enter the date the NDC ends.
