NDC is a universal product identifier for human drugs. Each drug product listed is assigned a unique 11-digit, 3-segment number. This number, known as NDC identifies the labeler or vendor, product, and trade package size. Access to the NDC Library enables users to enter new NDC ID values to the library. A user only has access when the security right for the NDC Libraries module is selected (under ) for the group that the user is in.
- Open File Maintenance and select .
The NDC List window opens.
- From the NDC List window, select the open menu button
to add or open an existing NDC library.
The NDC List Maintenance window opens.
- Search for an NDC code using the filter criteria.
- Enter or modify the NDC information manually.
Note:
- In the Drug Unit Count column, enter the dosage form which is based on the second segment of the NDC number. This segment indicates a specific strength, dosage form, and formulation. For example, NDC number 00004-1964-04 indicates a one GR vial, then you must enter 1 in the Drug unit Count field. This is a 15-character field that includes a floating decimal point with three decimal digits. For example, 12345.525, 12345.25.
- Enter the alternate Medicare billing code (Q code). For more information about setting up alternate Medicare codes associated with Flu vaccines (Q codes) and administering immunizations, refer to Orders Module User Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
- Select OK.
