Add a New NDC for a Charge
To add a NDC Id for a charge, do the following:
- Open NextGen® Enterprise PM.
- Select Charges.
The Charge Posting window opens.
- Select the desired patient and encounter.
- Do one of the following using a SIM code that requires NDC information.
- Enter a new charge, and then select Save or Next.
- Select an existing charge, and then select the NDC Charges
icon on the Charge Posting toolbar.
The NDC Data for this Charge window opens.
- Select National Drug Code, and then enter the NDC Id in the 11-digit 12345-6789-01 format.
Note: This field is required. Digits 1-5 indicate label, digits 6-9 indicate product, and digits 10-11 indicate package.
- In the Eff Date and Exp Date fields, enter the effective and expiration dates for the new NCD Id. These fields are required.
When you enter a new NCD Id, the Service Date on the charge must fall within the Effective Date and Expiration Date and saved on the charge.Note: If the service date does not fall within the date range, a message appears stating that the NDC code was not saved on the charge due to date range.
- Select Description, and then enter a descriptive name for the new NCD Id.
- In the Drug Unit Price field, do one of the following:
- Enter the price per unit for the drug.
- Enter 0.00 or leave blank.
Note: Drug Unit Price is not a required field and it is not included on electronic claims in ASC X12 Version 5010 format.
- Select the Basis of Measure list, and then select one of the following units of measure.
- <none> for blank
- F2 for international unit
- GR for gram
- ME for milligram
- ML for milliliter
- UN for unit
- Select Drug Unit Count, and then enter the unit count for the drug. The field allows up to 15 characters with 1, 2 or 3 decimal places.
Note: You must either enter or leave Basis of Measure and Drug Unit Count fields blank. If you enter only one field, a message appears stating that if NDC is selected, then Drug Unit Count and Basis of Measure must both be entered or left blank to save the NDC with the charge.
- To save changes and close the window, select OK.
- If you have security access rights to update NDC Libraries in File Maintenance, a message appears stating to add NDC code to NDC library.
- Select Yes to update the NDC library with the new NCD Id.
- Select No to save the NCD Id with the charge only, without updating the NDC Library.
If you do not have security access rights to update NDC Libraries, a message appears stating that you do not have access to the NDC Library to add a new NDC code. This code will be used for this charge only.
- Select OK.
