Access the Charge Posting Window

You can open the Charge Posting window by selecting Charges on the NextGen® Enterprise PM toolbar. You can also access the Charge Posting window from the following areas in NextGen® Enterprise PM. Appointment Book Appointment Lookup Encounter Lookup Patient Chart Account Profile To open the Charge Posting window from Appointment Book, do the following: From the Appointment Book, locate the desired appointment. Note: The appointment must be kept with a linked encounter. Right-click the appointment and select Charges from the menu. The Charge Posting window opens displaying the patient name and the selected appointment details. To open the Charge Posting window from the Appointment Lookup window, do the following: From the NextGen® Enterprise PM toolbar, select the ApptList button. The Appointment Lookup window opens. Enter the appropriate Search Criteria to locate the desired appointment. Select Find. Note: The appointment must be kept with a linked encounter. In the Appointment List se

Navigating the Charge Posting Window

In the Charge Posting window, you can do the following: Press the Tab key to move forward to the next field. Press the Shift and Tab keys to move back to the previous field. Press the hot-key commands to move to a specific field or button. Press the Alt key and a letter to move to a specific field or button. For example, pressing Alt and P moves to the Patient field. The following table shows the field hot-key commands. Open the Patient Information Bar in Charge Posting

Before you begin Practice and user preferences must be set in charge posting to enable the Patient Information Bar. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. From the main toolbar, select Charges. The Charge Posting window opens displaying the Patient Information Bar. The Patient Information Bar does not display any information until a patient is selected. Patient information bar in charge posting Search for and select the patient and encounter to record charges. The information for the selected patient displays in the Patient Information Bar. Note: If you access the Charge Posting window from the Appointment Book or Encounters tab of the chart, the patient data automatically appears in the Patient Information Bar. View Charges from the Charge Posting Window

You can view existing charges of a patient from the Charge Posting window. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. Select Charges. The Charge Posting window opens. Select the desired patient and encounter. In the charge ledger section at the bottom of the window, right-click to access the shortcut menu. Select Ledger Views. Select one of the following Ledger Views. All Patient Charges: shows all charges for every encounter and every payment/adjustment for each charge. The first column on the left displays the encounter number. The total reflects the sum of all charges and the listed payments or adjustments. All Encounter Charges: Shows all charges for the encounter you select and every payment/adjustment for each charge. You can select an encounter from the Encounter field or from the All Patient Charges. The total reflects the sum of all charges and the listed payments or adjustments. This is the default view. Add a Charge Note

You can add a note to a charge to provide additional information about the charge. Charge notes are used for internal purposes only and do not appear on claims or statements. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. Select Charges. The Charge Posting window opens. Select the desired patient and encounter. In the charge ledger section at the bottom of the window, select the charge to which a note is to be added. Select Open. In the Notes field, enter a free-text note about the charge. For lengthy notes, select Note . The Charge Notes window opens. In the Note Entry field, enter free-text notes for the charge as needed. Select OK. Parent topic: Enter Charges
