Charge Posting Additional Fields

When enabled, additional fields appear on the Charge Posting window. One or more of these fields may be needed for specific types of billing. The following additional fields are available. Field Description Settings Tooth Selects a tooth for a dental charge. Practice Preferences > Charge Entry > Display tooth, surface, quadrant. Surface Selects one or more tooth surfaces for a dental charge. Practice Preferences > Charge Entry > Display tooth, surface, quadrant. Quadrant Selects an area of the mouth for a dental charge. Practice Preferences > Charge Entry > Display tooth, surface, quadrant. Batch You can enter a free-text batch description for each charge. Access the Charge Posting Window

You can open the Charge Posting window by selecting Charges on the NextGen® Enterprise PM toolbar. You can also access the Charge Posting window from the following areas in NextGen® Enterprise PM. Appointment Book Appointment Lookup Encounter Lookup Patient Chart Account Profile To open the Charge Posting window from Appointment Book, do the following: From the Appointment Book, locate the desired appointment. Note: The appointment must be kept with a linked encounter. Right-click the appointment and select Charges from the menu. The Charge Posting window opens displaying the patient name and the selected appointment details. To open the Charge Posting window from the Appointment Lookup window, do the following: From the NextGen® Enterprise PM toolbar, select the ApptList button. The Appointment Lookup window opens. Charge Posting Overview

On the Charge Posting window in NextGen® Enterprise PM, you can enter new charges or modify existing charges on patient encounters or company invoices. A charge is any service or procedure that is rendered to a patient by a provider within the practice. All charges include the following fields. Service Date Service Item (SIM) Code CPT4 Code Quantity Unit Price Diagnosis Codes Rendering Provider Place of Service Location Access the Charge Posting Window You can open the Charge Posting window to enter or modify Charges. Charge Posting Toolbar Charge Posting toolbar enables you to access icons to perform different actions, while working with charges. Open the Patient Information Bar in Charge Posting

Before you begin Practice and user preferences must be set in charge posting to enable the Patient Information Bar. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. From the main toolbar, select Charges. The Charge Posting window opens displaying the Patient Information Bar. The Patient Information Bar does not display any information until a patient is selected. Patient information bar in charge posting Search for and select the patient and encounter to record charges. The information for the selected patient displays in the Patient Information Bar. Note: If you access the Charge Posting window from the Appointment Book or Encounters tab of the chart, the patient data automatically appears in the Patient Information Bar. Enter Charges

Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. Select Charges on the NextGen® Enterprise PM toolbar. The Charge Posting window opens. To enter a charge, select New. Fill the fields for each charge entered on the encounter. Press the Tab key to move forward to the next field. Press the Shift and Tab keys to move back to the previous field. To complete the charge, do one of the following: To save the charge and enter another charge on the same encounter, select Next. The charge displays in the Charge Ledger at the bottom of the window. To save the charge without entering another charge, select Save. The charge displays in the Charge Ledger at the bottom of the window. To save the charge and clear the window to enter charges on another encounter, select Next Enc. To cancel the charge without saving changes, select Cancel. Navigating the Patient Group Window

You can navigate through the Patient Group window by pressing the Tab key to move forward to the next field, or by pressing the Shift and Tab keys to move back to the previous field. You can also navigate to a specific tab or button on the window by using a hot-key command. Press the Alt key to display an underlined letter on all tabs and buttons. The underlined letters are the hot-key commands. Then press Alt and a Letter to navigate to that specific tab or button. For example, pressing Alt and M navigates to the Members tab. Hot-Key Commands Alt + Navigates to: G General tab M Members tab A Appointments tab W Who/When button O OK button C Cancel button The default sort for patients in the Member List on the Members tab is ascending order by Name. You can change the sort by selecting any column header to resort the members by that column in ascending or descending order. In addition, you can rearrange and resize any column.
