Patient Notifications Practice Preferences Descriptions

The following table provides descriptions to the fields located in the Patient Notifications Practice Preferences.

Notification TypeDescription
EmailPatient can receive notifications from the practice via email sent to the following email address.
Phone CallPatient can receive notifications from the practice by a phone call sent to the following number.
PortalPatient can receive notifications from the practice through NextGen® PxP Portal.

If the patient is enrolled in Patient Portal, the system will automatically select Portal as the Notification preference, if not previously selected. If NextGen® PxP Portal is not set up, the Portal check box is grayed out.

SMS (Text)Patient can receive notifications from the practice by text message sent to the cell phone number.
Voice RemindersPatient can receive voice reminder notifications from the practice sent to the preferred contact number.
Default Notification OrderUse the Up and Down Arrows to move the notification types to your practice’s default settings.

Example: If your first preference is to use voice reminders on a cell phone, then move Cell Phone to row 1. Then move your second preference to row 2.

Notifications Used in this PracticeSelect the notifications methods used in your practice.
Display Notifications in Person DemographicsThis option determines if the Notifications field displays on the Demographics tab of the Patient/Person Information window.

Select this check box to:

Display the Notifications field, on the Person/Patient Information window. Then select one or more Notification Preferences and Contact Methods in the Notifications used in this Practice section of this window.

Enable the check boxes Require Notifications in Person Demographics and Default selected Notifications in Person Demographics.

When you DO NOT select this check box:

The Notifications field does not display on the Person/Patient Information window.

NextGen Care Outreach Practices

This check box is enabled by default for NextGen Care Outreach practices and cannot be modified within the application.

Require Notifications in Person DemographicsThis option determines if the Notifications field on the Person/Patient Information window is required.

Select this check box to:

Make the Notifications field required in the Patient/Person Information window on the Demographics tab. The options in this field are the Notification Methods selected on this window.

When you DO NOT select this check box:

The Notifications field is not required on the Person/Patient Information window.

NextGen Care Outreach Practices

This check box is enabled by default for NextGen Care Outreach practices and cannot be modified within the application.

Default selected Notifications in Person DemographicsThis option determines if the notifications for this practice are automatically selected in the Notifications field on the Person/Patient Information window.

Select this check box to:

Automatically select the practice notifications in the Notifications field drop-down list.

When you DO NOT select this check box:

The practice notifications in the Notifications field drop-down list will not be selected.

NextGen Care Outreach Practices

This check box is enabled by default for NextGen Care Outreach practices and cannot be modified within the application.

Make Notifications in Person Demographics Practice specificCaution: This selection is permanent. It cannot be undone after you select this check box.

Select this check box to make notification preferences specific to your practice. Every practice in your organization can identify how they want to notify a patient.

Example: Patient A is a member of Practice 1, Practice 2, and Practice 3. Practice 1 will notify the patient by cell phone. Practice 2 will notify the patient by text message. Practice 3 will notify the patient by Email.
