Escalation Levels

Escalation levels provide visual feedback in the Alerts View to see which alerts need actions taken on them. When an alert receives a trigger (for example, an error occurs on one of your channels), you can have your alert escalate to different configurable levels. This enables you to easily take different actions based on the level. For example you may want to email a different group of people if an alert is escalated from "help desk" to "management". The different escalation levels provide visual feedback in the Alerts View to see which alerts need actions taken on them. Column Description Level The name of the escalation level. The first level is always hard-coded to "Normal", but subsequent levels can have their names changed. You can also select the colored square to set a custom color for the level. Enabled Channels

The Enabled Channels section enables you to decide which channels and connectors may trigger an alert. You can choose to, for example, only listen for error events coming from source connectors, and ignore those coming from destination connectors. The [New Channels] option indicates that you want an alert to listen for error events on any new channels that are created after the alert was initially created. Similarly, the [New Destinations] option indicates that you want an alert to listen for error events on any new destinations that are created for a channel after the alert was initially created. Actions

The Actions section enables you to decide what actions to take after your alert is triggered. You can take multiple actions all at once for a single action group, which may include sending emails to multiple users and dispatching messages to multiple channels. Image of the Actions pane. Protocols All protocols also support Velocity Variable Replacement. You can use any of the following Alert Variables, or any Global Map variable. Channel: The template is sent as a message to the channel selected in the Recipient column. The subject is not used for this protocol. Email: The subject and template is used to send an email to the address specified in the Recipient column. User: Same as the Email protocol, the email address used is the one configured for the selected user. Role: Emails are sent to all users within a particular Role-Based Access Control role. Trigger Conditions

Alert trigger conditions define the logic that triggers an alert. The trigger type of an alert determines what type of alert it is, and how it will trigger. For example, a Channel Error alert will trigger when an error occurs in one of your channels. The No. of messages (sliding window) alert will trigger when a particular statistic has been incremented a certain amount of times over a specified time period. Action Groups

Action Groups enable you to separate actions so that your alert only takes a particular action under some conditions, and perhaps other actions under other conditions. For example, you can have a group that sends emails to help desk whenever a trigger occurs. However, you may not want to send an email to management that often, so you can create a separate action group that only applies when the escalation level is higher. You can also set do-not-disturb periods for each action group so that they only apply during certain hours of the day. Wait Period The amount of time after an action group sends an alert message before if can send another one. Triggers and level changes that occur while the group is waiting are ignored. Overview of the Alerts View

The Alerts view serves as a dashboard where you can view your currently configured alerts. The Alerts view serves as a dashboard for your currently configured alerts. You can view which ones are enabled and how many times an alert has triggered since it was last enabled. Image of the Alerts view With Advanced Alerting installed, you can also view an alerts trigger count, its current escalation level, and the last time the escalation level was changed. There is also a log on the bottom portion of the view that contains information about each time an alert was sent out. Alerts Table The Alerts table shows the current status and action counters for all your configured alerts. Alerts Log The alerts log pane records information about each time an alert is sent out. Alert Tasks The Alert Tasks pane includes a list of context-specific actions that you can perform for an alert.
