Escalation Levels

Escalation levels provide visual feedback in the Alerts View to see which alerts need actions taken on them. When an alert receives a trigger (for example, an error occurs on one of your channels), you can have your alert escalate to different configurable levels. This enables you to easily take different actions based on the level. For example you may want to email a different group of people if an alert is escalated from "help desk" to "management". The different escalation levels provide visual feedback in the Alerts View to see which alerts need actions taken on them. Column Description Level The name of the escalation level. The first level is always hard-coded to "Normal", but subsequent levels can have their names changed. You can also select the colored square to set a custom color for the level. Escalate After The condition which escalates the alert to the next level. At the Normal level, escalation occurs whenever the alert triggers. At all other levels, escalation occurs aft

Action Groups

Action Groups enable you to separate actions so that your alert only takes a particular action under some conditions, and perhaps other actions under other conditions. For example, you can have a group that sends emails to help desk whenever a trigger occurs. However, you may not want to send an email to management that often, so you can create a separate action group that only applies when the escalation level is higher. You can also set do-not-disturb periods for each action group so that they only apply during certain hours of the day. Wait Period The amount of time after an action group sends an alert message before if can send another one. Triggers and level changes that occur while the group is waiting are ignored. Alert Actions

This section of the Edit Alert View allows you to decide what actions to take after your alert has been triggered. You can take multiple actions all at once for a single trigger event, which may include sending e-mails to multiple users and dispatching messages to multiple channels. Protocols All protocols also support Velocity Variable Replacement, you can use any of the Alert Variables below, or any Global Map variable. Channel: The template is sent as a message to the channel selected in the Recipient column. The subject is not used for this protocol. Email: The subject and template is used to send an e-mail to the address specified in the Recipient column. User: Same as the Email protocol, the e-mail address used is the one configured for the selected user. Role: E-mails will be sent to all users within a particular Role-Based Access Control role. Overview of the Edit Alert View

You can use the Edit Alert view to configure or modify alerts. The Edit Alert view is where alerts are configured and modified. After an alert is saved, it appear on the Alerts view, which is like a dashboard for your currently configured alerts. Alert Variables

A list of general variables that you can use to create alert actions. The following is a list of variables that you can use to create alert actions. alertId: The unique ID of the alert. alertName: The name of the alert. groupName: The name of the action group. serverId: The unique ID of the server. globalMapVariable: Indicates that you can use any variable in the global or configuration maps. date: The current date, formatted as a human-readable string. currentLevel: The current escalation level of the alert. systemTime: The current epoch time in milliseconds. error:The full error message, including (where applicable) the source code, line number, and error details. errorMessage: If an exception is associated with the error event, this will be the message or detail of the exception. errorType: The category of the error. Alerts Table

The Alerts table shows the current status and action counters for all your configured alerts. The Alerts table is the main section of the Alerts View that shows the current status and action counters for all your configured alerts. Image of the Alerts table. Column Description A Status Indicates whether the alert is enabled or disabled. B Name The name of the alert. C Id The unique ID for the alert. D Triggered The trigger count for the alert. This is the number of times the condition for the alert has been satisfied, but not necessarily how many alerts have been sent out. If you have multiple actions set on an alert, it may trigger once but send out multiple alerts. This number can be cleared out by using the Clear Trigger Count task. E Alerted For enabled alerts, the number of times the alert has taken action (e.g. sent an email) since it was last enabled. F Current Level The current escalation level for the alert.
