Working with the TWAIN Driver Interface

The manufacturer of every scanner provides a software interface that allows applications to interact with the scanner. Because this interface is based on a universally agreed standard called TWAIN, every application designed to work with TWAIN can use the same scanner.

For example, this TWAIN Driver interface shown is provided by Fujitsu for its model fi-4120C scanner. This is the scanner interface you would see within NextGen® Document Management if you are using the fi-4120C scanner. If you had another application such as Adobe® Photoshop® on the same PC, you can see the same interface when you scanned images with Adobe® Photoshop®.
TWAIN driver interface for a specific scanner model

While the TWAIN Driver interface supplied by each manufacturer functions equally well within any application designed to use TWAIN-compliant devices, each interface can have a different layout. The TWAIN Driver interface you use for your image acquisition device likely looks different from the one shown in the example.

Consult the documentation that came with your scanner for information on using your TWAIN Driver interface.
