Image acquisition device | A device that acquires images using the TWAIN protocol, such as a scanner. |
Image | An item containing visual information such as an X-ray. |
Document | An item containing text. When you scan an item and store it in NextGen® Document Management, the item becomes an image. All the items that you can search, view, and manipulate with NextGen® Document Management are technically images. Some are images of documents, while others are images of images. |
TWAIN | A standard software protocol and applications programming interface (API) that regulates communication between software applications and image acquisition devices. |
Remote scanning | An ability to operate a separate NextGen® Document Management at a remote location that uses the main image archive, located at the primary location. This process minimizes the network congestion due to image data. |
Transfer interval | A period of time permitted to pass between the transference of segments of an image to or from a remote location. |
Sleep interval | A period of time permitted to pass between the transference of separate images to or from a remote location. |
