Creating Patient Notes

You can view a note in the Clinical History/Notes tab. You can create a patient note to record a patient's formal and informal information.

You can create a formal note to be stored with the medical chart through your notepad or word processor. Notes created externally from NextGen® Enterprise PM remain in their native format, stored on the database, and attached to the chart. You can designate a chart note as non-printable. Non-printable notes can be changed to printable only by the creator of the note or an administrator.

You can also create a quicknote from within NextGen® Enterprise PM. A quicknote is part of the application and is ideal for short notes. A Quicknote is effective for getting data quickly and making it easily accessible on-line.

The following tables describes the three types of notes available in the patient chart:

Note TypeDescription
ChartA chart note is an informal used to document financial information concerning a patient. Any number of items can be stored in this informal format.
EncounterAn encounter note is a type of chart note used to document information about an encounter. Any notation about an encounter is saved under the Encounter - Note section.
QuicknotesA Quicknote is a shorter, less extensive note and is easily accessible on-line. It is attached to the chart.
