Assign Practices to an Association

Every practice is automatically added to the DEFAULT association. You can, however, assign a different Association to any practice. Select a practice. The practice details appear. In the Association list, select the association that you want the practice assigned to. Select Update. Note: You must select Update after every practice assignment to an association, otherwise the practice assignment to the association does not save. To assign more practices to different associations, repeat steps 1 – 3. Close the System Administrator application so that the person association assignment can take effect in the database. To add or modify an Association, select the Edit > Association Maintenance. The Association Listing window displays the DEFAULT association and any existing associations. Note: Every practice is automatically added to the DEFAULT association. In the Association Listing window, do one of the following: Right-click on any empty space, then select New. Select then right-click an existing association, and then select Open. The Add Association window appears. Enter a new association name or change the existing name. Select OK. Functional Rules

The following rules are intended to help you as you go through the process of creating associations, renaming associations, and adding and deleting practices from associations. Every practice must be assigned to an association. A practice can only be assigned to one association. Practices are typically assigned to the same association because of their common ownership. Creating associations assists you with securing Protected Health Information (PHI) by limiting or expanding access to the Master Patient Index (MPI) and other person records in the application. The limits set by the practice associations are not affected by the MPI definition.
