Assign Practices to an Association

Every practice is automatically added to the DEFAULT association. You can, however, assign a different Association to any practice. Select a practice. The practice details appear. In the Association list, select the association that you want the practice assigned to. Select Update. Note: You must select Update after every practice assignment to an association, otherwise the practice assignment to the association does not save. To assign more practices to different associations, repeat steps 1 – 3. Close the System Administrator application so that the person association assignment can take effect in the database. Manage Associations

To add or modify an Association, select the Edit > Association Maintenance. The Association Listing window displays the DEFAULT association and any existing associations. Note: Every practice is automatically added to the DEFAULT association. In the Association Listing window, do one of the following: Right-click on any empty space, then select New. Select then right-click an existing association, and then select Open. The Add Association window appears. Enter a new association name or change the existing name. Select OK. Creating associations assists you with securing Protected Health Information (PHI) by limiting or expanding access to the Master Patient Index (MPI) and other person records in the application. The limits set by the practice associations are not affected by the MPI definition. Assign a User to Groups in the Same Practice

When you create a user in one group, you can add that same user to additional groups in the same practice. Note: If a user is assigned to more than one group, the user inherits the rights and permissions of all of the groups to which he or she is assigned. Double-click the user. Adding Existing Users to Other Groups

After you create a user in one group, you can add the user to additional groups within the same practice, in different practices in the same enterprise, or in practices in other enterprises. You can add users to groups by doing any of the following: Add users to a single group. See, Add Existing Users to a Single Group. Assign one or more groups from the same practice to a single user. See, Assign a User to Groups in the Same Practice. Assign one or more groups from any practice in any enterprise to a single user. See, Assign a User to Groups within Any Enterprise. If a user is assigned to more than one group, the user inherits the rights and permissions of all of the groups to which he or she is assigned. Therefore, if the user belongs to multiple groups, some of which have a particular right and some that don't, the user gains access to the right. Modifying Practices

You can set up the following for a practice: Basic information (on the Practice Defaults tab). Associate an external system with the practice (on the External tab). Note: You must have at least one practice visible in the Practices List window. You cannot hide a practice if it is the only one.
