Diagnosis/Procedure Information Panel

Procedures and diagnoses pull to the grids in the Diagnosis/Procedure Information panel from the Surgery Sched template. You can add additional procedures and diagnoses to the grids. Procedures and diagnoses entered from the Surgery Sched template cannot be removed, but do not have to be billed for, if not performed. Additional features in this panel include the following: Do not send to Histories– enables you to submit charges for the procedure(s) without sending the procedure(s) to the Orthopedic Surgical History grid. This would prevent providers from tying this procedure to a post-op visit. Submit to History- if you are awaiting sign off, but you want to enter the procedure in the Orthopedic Surgical History grid, click the Submit to History button. This sends the procedure to the Orthopedic Surgical History grid, so providers can tie it to a post-op visit prior to charges being submitted. When ready to submit charges, you can return to this template and click Submit to Superbill.

Reschedule Surgeries

On the Surgery Sched template, you can reschedule existing surgery orders. On the Surgery Sched template, expand the Place Order panel. Select the Reschedule check box. A message appears stating that you can reschedule the surgery order only once, and you cannot combine a revised order with a rescheduled order. Click OK. The Add New Task window opens. On the Surgery Sched template, a message appears next to the Reschedule check box stating that the surgery is rescheduled, and fields appear for the following: Documenting the reason for rescheduling the surgery order Creating tasks for the clinical staff, coordinator, physical therapy, or orthotics and prosthetics schedule Displaying your name, and date and time when the surgery is rescheduled Generating rescheduled surgery document Documenting new date of surgery and admit date Reshedule check box in the Place Order panel Assign a task to the desired user on the Add New Task window that opens. Surgery Coding Template

The final step for the surgery scheduling workflow is the Surgery Coding template. Here, billers can code and bill for the procedures performed. We recommended that you open a new encounter, drag the Surgery Sched template to the new encounter, then code and bill for the procedures on the Surgery Coding template. The Schedule/Boarding Information and Diagnosis/Procedure Information panels display all diagnoses and procedures entered from the Surgery Sched template. You can also add additional diagnoses or update the procedure if the performed procedure is different than the boarded procedure. Add Surgery Coding Biller You can add the person who does the billing for the procedures performed by the provider. Scheduling and Boarding Information You can verify the information added while scheduling the surgery and add the necessary tasks for the billing staff or providers. Surgery Scheduling Workflow

The surgery scheduling workflow for NextGen® Orthopedic Suite begins on the Surgery Sched template. The information can be entered by clinical staff but must be reviewed and signed off by a provider or surgeon. You can use QuickPick to fill standard information for each surgery type and then add patient specific information. Note: Best practice recommends that you open the Surgery Sched template on its own encounter. Surgeries may be scheduled months in advance and this enables the coordinators to unlock the encounter without having to worry about changing documentation for a previous visit. Surgery Scheduling Template Wait List Tracking Surgery Orders You can track surgery orders, add coordinator notes, and generate various documents and patient letters on the Coordinator template. Pre-Authorization for Surgeries You can use the Pre Auth template to add and track the authorization details for scheduling the surgery of a patient. Use the Surgery Sched template to enter surgery-related information. The information can be entered by the clinical staff, but must be reviewed and signed off by a provider or surgeon. Documenting Medical Clearance Details

You can add and track the medical clearance details of a patient for scheduling a surgery. You can document the following medical clearance details of patient in the Medical Clearance panel on the Surgery Sched template. Pre-op clearance Primary care provider Specialty clearance Medications Anticoagulants Bridging RA Medication Instructions Antibiotics Chronic pain management Medical Clearance panel on the Surgery Scheduling template If a primary care provider is added for a patient, the provider name is automatically filled in the PCP field. You must enter a pre-op clearance before signing off or approve the Surgery Sched template. Note: You can configure the picklists for the fields in the Medical Clearance panel.
