Surgery Details of Patients

You can document the surgery diagnosis, procedure codes, and surgery details prior to scheduling the surgery for a patient. You can add diagnoses, surgery details, pre-operative and post-operative procedures, components, and procedure notes in the Surgery Information panel on the Surgery Sched template. The Diagnosis, Procedure, and Surgeon fields are mandatory. Surgery Scheduling Template

Use the Surgery Sched template to enter surgery-related information. The information can be entered by the clinical staff, but must be reviewed and signed off by a provider or surgeon. Enter Pre-and Post-op Medications and Instructions

To enter Pre-OP Medications, Post-OP Medications, and Instructions, click the fields and select the medications and instructions from the configurable picklists. Note: The picklists for these fields are configured on the Surgery Scheduling Configuration template. Managing Pre- and Post-Operative Medication Instructions

You can configure the picklist for pre- and post-operative medications and instructions fields using the IORTS Cfg Surgery Schedule system template. The Pre & Post Op Medication Instructions panel on the IORTS Cfg Surgery Schedule system template has the medication categories. You can use these categories to configure the picklists for the following fields in the Medical Clearance panel on the Surgery Sched medical record template. Generate Surgery Orders and Clearance Letters

You can generate surgery orders, lab orders, and clearance letters. On the Coordinator template, in the Medical Clearance panel, you can generate surgery orders, surgery plan documents, clearance letters, and lab orders. You can configure the document generation for the following documents based on the surgery location and admit type in the Surgery Scheduling - Document Generation panel on the Document Config system template. Surgery Scheduling Workflow

The surgery scheduling workflow for NextGen® Orthopedic Suite begins on the Surgery Sched template. The information can be entered by clinical staff but must be reviewed and signed off by a provider or surgeon. You can use QuickPick to fill standard information for each surgery type and then add patient specific information. Note: Best practice recommends that you open the Surgery Sched template on its own encounter. Surgeries may be scheduled months in advance and this enables the coordinators to unlock the encounter without having to worry about changing documentation for a previous visit.
