Set Up the Practice as an ASC in the Practice System Master File

The Ophthalmology ASC practice is required to be set up in the Practices system master file. In File Maintenance, click Practices under Master Files - System to open the Practices List window. Click the Menu icon below the Locations List Search field and select New ... to open the Add Practice Information tabs. practices list window Select the Practice Defaults tab and enter name, address, and practice licensing information for the practice. Before beginning to enter patient information for Ophthalmology ASC, you must select your ASC Center in the top toolbar as the Provider. Setup for Ophthalmology ASC in File Maintenance

For ASC billing, billing is separated into a facility fee and a professional fee. The facility fee is billed through the ASC, which is set up both as a practice and as a provider. The professional fee for the surgery/procedure is billed through the clinical practice of the surgeon/provider. The facility (ASC) is set up and selected as the practice and the rendering provider, while the provider performing the surgery is selected as the referring provider. Configuring the ASC as both a practice and a rendering provider is done in File Maintenance. CAUTION: It recommended that practices consult their legal advisers, and state and other regulators for setup guidance to determine whether a separate practice should be set up for the ASC or if the ASC can be included as an additional location within the provider practice. Ophthalmology Ambulatory Surgical Center Setup

In this version of NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine, the Ophthalmology ASC templates remain the familiar 10-tab template set as in previous versions. Open this template set by selecting ASC Home – OPH listed in Template Launcher in the History toolbar or configured as a preferred medical records template in Preferences on the Template tab. To use the Ophthalmology ASC workflow, for billing purposes and to meet certain regulatory requirements that clinical records for an Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) be kept separate from a clinic, certain configuration prerequisites must be performed in File Maintenance. This includes setting up the ASC as a separate practice and configuring this Ambulatory Surgical Center as the rendering provider. When documenting an Ophthalmology ASC encounter, the ASC Center is selected as both the Practice and the Provider. Set Up Storage Locations

You can set up your storage locations for patient chart items. From File Maintenance, select Master Files > System > Storage Locations. The Storage Locations List window opens. To edit an existing storage location, double-click a Storage Name. To create a storage location, select open menu and select New. The Storage Location window opens. Enter the following information: In Storage Name, enter a name for the storage location. In the Storage Type section, select the File System option. In the File Storage section, enter the path of the storage location or select open folder to select a folder you want to use as the location. In the Application section, select the EHR option. In the Note field, enter comments on the storage location, if any. Either select Next to enter another storage location or select OK to exit the Storage Location window. Add Claim Type Facility IDs

Open a location master file. Do one of the following: To create facility IDs at the system level, select the Location Defaults tab. To create facility IDs at the practice level, select the Practice tab, and then select the Use practice level claims data check box. Note: Facility IDs on the Practice tab override the ones on the Location Defaults tab. Select Claim Type subtab to create claim type facility IDs. On the Claim Type subtab, do the following: Enter the ID for the facility that is used by Medicare in the Medicare Facility ID field. Enter the ID for the facility that is used by Blue Cross/Blue Shiled in the BCBS Facility ID field. Enter the ID for the facility that is used by Medicaid in the Medicaid Facility ID field. This field provides the option to print the Medicaid ID in box 32 of the HCFA form. Select the HCFA Box 32 check box if the facility is valid for box 32 of the HCFA 1500 or boc 32b of the CMS 1500.
