Prescribe and Send Medications to a Pharmacy

You can select medications from the NextGen® Ambient Assist suggestions, favorite groups, and the main list and send them to a patient's preferred pharmacy in NextGen® Mobile.

1. Open NextGen® Mobile.
2. Open the Patient Chart view for your patient.
3. Select Today's Visit.
   Note: You must select an unlocked encounter or create an encounter.

   In NextGen® Mobile, the Medications module is available for NextGen® Enterprise EHR 6.2021.1 and later versions.

4. Select the open icon or View All next to Medications (Rx).
   In Medications, the patient's active medications appear.

   Note: The Prescribe New Rx option is available for default provider active encounters.
5. Select Prescribe New Rx, and then do one of the following:
   • To select medications from the ambient assist suggestions, select the Suggested tab, select the necessary medications, and then select Next.
   • To select medications from favorite groups or the main list, on the Favorites or Search tab, search for and select medications, and then select Next.
   On the Suggested tab, you can select the corresponding medication information icon to view the medication and sig evidence. On the Favorites tab, the favorite medication groups you added in NextGen® Enterprise EHR appear. You can also create favorite groups in NextGen® Mobile.
6. Select Yes to check the current formulary status of the selected medication.
   If the selected medication is On-Formulary, the Formulary Details window displays the medication's dosage and formulary status. You can select the options icon to view the copay, coverage, and step therapy details for the medication.
7. In Drug Alert, review and select Acknowledge next to each interaction, or select Scroll to the bottom and then select Acknowledge All & Continue.
   You can select a reason from the existing Drug Utilization Review (DUR) reasons, or you can add a reason as a comment to the interaction or to all interactions. You can cancel the DUR interaction by selecting Back on DUR Alert.
8. In Sig, on the Standard tab, select the necessary patient sig, medication instructions, diagnosis, indications, and prescription details, and then select Next.
   You can select sig text from the FDB (First Databank) default, FDB sig, and custom sig to ensure that patients receive accurate directions for medication use. If necessary, you can turn on Take as Needed (PRN).

   Note: If you do not have eRx permissions, the Rx Details view is not available. If the medication start date is later than the encounter creation date, the medication is saved to the Pending tab.
9. In Rx Details, select Add or Edit next to each section to add the necessary information, and then select Review & Send.
   Note: In Additional Rx Details, if you select the Prescribed Elsewhere checkbox, the Review & Send option is not available.

   If you select Save in Rx Details, the medications are saved to the pending medications list.

   If the selected medication is a controlled substance (CS), the PDMP view opens, and you can review and acknowledge the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) report.
10. In Review, review the medication and other information, and then select Send to eRx.
    For CS medications, after you acknowledge the PDMP interaction, the Send eRx view opens. Here, you can view the summary of prescribed medications and authenticate the prescription with the IdenTrust™ Mobile Authentication Service (MAS) credentials or Symantec VIP token.
    The prescription is submitted to the patient's preferred pharmacy.
