You can edit and renew a patient's medications based on their condition, or you can discontinue a medication or mark it as ineffective in the NextGen® Mobile Medications module.
- Open NextGen® Mobile.
- Open the Patient Chart view for your patient.
- Select Today's Visit.
Note: You must select an unlocked encounter or create an encounter.
In NextGen® Mobile, the Medications module is available for NextGen® Enterprise EHR 6.2021.1 and later versions.
- Select Medications (Rx).
- In Medications, on the Active tab, select the necessary medication information
icon, and then select View/Edit or Renew.
- Select Yes to check the current formulary status of the selected medication.
- In Drug Alert, review and select Acknowledge next to each interaction, or select Scroll to the bottom and then select Acknowledge All & Continue.
You can select a reason from the existing Drug Utilization Review (DUR) reasons, or you can add a reason as a comment to the interaction or to all interactions. You can cancel the DUR interaction by selecting Back on DUR Alert.
- In Sig, on the Standard tab, select the necessary patient sig, medication instructions, diagnosis, indications, and prescription details, and then select Next.
You can select sig text from the FDB (First Databank) default, FDB sig, and custom sig to ensure that patients receive accurate directions for medication use. If necessary, you can turn on
Take as Needed (PRN).
Note: If you do not have eRx permissions, the Rx Details view is not available. If the medication start date is later than the encounter creation date, the medication is saved to the Pending tab.
- In Rx Details, select Add or Edit next to each section to add the necessary information, and then select Review & Send.
Note: In
Additional Rx Details, if you select the
Prescribed Elsewhere checkbox, the
Review & Send option is not available.
If you select Save in Rx Details, the medications are saved to the pending medications list.
If the selected medication is a controlled substance (CS), the
PDMP view opens, and you can review and acknowledge the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) report.
- In Review, review the medication and other information, and then select Send to eRx.
For CS medications, after you acknowledge the PDMP interaction, the Send eRx view opens. Here, you can view the summary of prescribed medications and authenticate the prescription with the IdenTrust™ Mobile Authentication Service (MAS) credentials or Symantec VIP token.
The prescription is submitted to the patient's preferred pharmacy.
- Optional: To discontinue or mark a medication as ineffective, on the Active tab, select the corresponding medication information
icon, select Mark as ineffective or Stop, and then select Confirm.
