You can view and update the patient eligibility plan to accommodate insurance and pharmacy benefits in the prescribing workflow to improve accuracy and patient care.
Before you begin
In System Administrator NextGen Preferences, you must set the Perform Eligibility Upon Opening Medications or Perform Eligibility Upon Opening New Encounter options to TRUE.
You must also turn on eligibility service level permissions on NextGen® Enterprise EHR.

You can select a patient's prescription plan to view the medications covered by the patient's insurance.
- Open NextGen® Mobile.
- Open the Patient Chart view for your patient.
- Select Today's Visit.
Note: You must select an unlocked encounter or create an encounter.
In NextGen® Mobile, the Medications module is available for NextGen® Enterprise EHR 6.2021.1 and later versions.
- Select the open
icon or View All next to Medications (Rx).
In
Medications, the patient's active medications appear.
Note: The Prescribe New Rx option is available for default provider active encounters.
- In the Medications window, select the refresh
icon to verify the Rx eligibility for the patient prescription plan.
- To view the plan details, select the plan.
If the patient demographic details do not match the data received from the payer, a message appears indicating a mismatch with the demographic information.
- To change the plan, select the options
icon next to the current plan, and then select the appropriate plan.
The patient plan is updated.
