Authenticate Medication using Symantec VIP Token

Before you begin You must ensure the following: The ePCS authentication method is set up in universal and user preferences in System Administrator. EPCS Authentication Method for ePrescribing must be set as Symantec. Note: User preference takes precedence over universal preference. The Symantec VIP application is installed on your device. You can use Symantec VIP token authentication method to perform authentication while prescribing controlled substances (CS) medication. In NextGen® Mobile, open the RxVerification view for a CS medication. Rx Verification view To authenticate your CS prescription, enter your password in the NextGen section. Symantec authentication view Note: The username is automatically filled based on the provider setup or logon. After you enter password, the Verify button is made available. Select Verify. Send Prescription to a Pharmacy

When adding, refilling, or renewing a medication, you are prompted to provide pharmacy information for the patient. If the patient has one or more default pharmacies defined, you can select a pharmacy from the list of available pharmacies. If the patient does not have a default pharmacy or needs to have the prescription sent to a different pharmacy, you can perform a pharmacy search. Open NextGen® Mobile. Select a medication for the patient. The RxDetails view opens. Fill the required fields, and select Save. If the DUR Alert view opens, select Reason to select a reason to allow the medication, and select Allow. DUR alert view Note: If there is no encounter created for the current date, a message appears for you to create an encounter. You can select Yes or No to proceed with the medication. Prescribing Medications

You can create a medication for a patient in the Medications module in NextGen® Mobile. If you have configured the ePCS setup, you can save the Controlled Substances (CS) medication for a patient. You can prescribe CS medication only if you have set up the provider relationship as self in System Administrator. After adding a medication, you can fill the required fields for prescribing the medication and send the prescription to the pharmacy. For non-CS medications, you can verify the medication details in the Rx Review view and send the prescription. To prescribe CS medications, you must authenticate your prescription in the Rx Verification view using either of the following ePCS authentication methods. Enter IdenTrust MAS Two-Factor Authentication Credentials for ePCS

If your ePCS authentication is set up for IdenTrust Mobile Authentication Service (MAS), then on the Send Prescription window, the Authentication Required to Sign Controlled Substances section displays the IdenTrust MAS authentication fields. Send Prescription Select Authenticate. The application displays ePCS identification code, and you receive a push notification on the registered device for the corresponding ePCS identification code. Send Prescription On your registered device, swipe Approve and then enter the HID Approve password. After your identity has been authenticated, the Send button becomes available to submit the prescription electronically. Update IdenTrust MAS Registered Devices for ePCS

You can update the IdenTrust Mobile Authentication Service (MAS) registered devices a provider can use for Electronic Prescriptions of Controlled Substances (ePCS). You may need to update a device if the previous device can longer be used, for example if a device is lost, broken, or replaced with another device. Select a provider, and then on the General tab, select ePCS. The ePCS Authentication and Authorization Setup window displays the Credentials tab. Select Update. The IdenTrustMAS Authentication window displays the number of devices registered with IdenTrust MAS and prompts to swipe Approve on the device the provider wants to use for ePCS. On the registered device, the provider swipes Approve and then enters the HID Approve password. The ePCS Authentication and Authorization Setup window displays the provider’s IdenTrust MAS username and the updated device name.
