Select or create a patient.
Select an existing encounter or create a one.
On the
Top Toolbar
, select
Templates
.
The
Select Template
window opens.
On the
Medical Records
tab in the
Show
section, select
All
.
Select the template that contains the communication component template and select
OK
.
The template opens and the communication component appears.
You are now ready to record communication information.

Access NextGen® Enterprise. Select or create a patient. Select an existing encounter or create a one. On the Top Toolbar, select Templates. The Select Template window opens. On the Medical Records tab in the Show section, select All. Select the template that contains the communication component template and select OK. Use the Communication Component
The Communication component enables you to document calls or communications that can then be placed on a template. This provides a more functional space to maintain and update data, rather than static form fields of telephone call templates. This component functions as a data-driven workflow to document call types that provide a resource for users to document as well as take any necessary follow-up actions produced by the call. The component is made up of the Communication Component Grid and Action Panel. The Communication component enables a streamlined approach to documenting calls for the following categories: Billing Questions Charges Forms/Record Requests Medical Questions Medication Management Referral Request Test Results Request Other Note: For NextGen® Enterprise, 5.8 UD2 and above, the Communication component must be configured in Template Editor to place on a template. Open the Telephone Communication Template
You can open the Telephone Communication template from the Templates module. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. To open the Templates module on a patient encounter, do one of the following: On the Categories or Encounter History tab, select Open Template. On Top Toolbar, select Templates. On the main menu, select File > New > Template. The Select Template window opens. In Medical Records tab, in Show, select All. Select Telephone Communication and select OK. The Telephone Communication template opens. Telephone Communication The tabs on the Telephone Communication template appear based on the selected Specialty and Visit Type. Record a Telephone Conversation in the Communication Panel
You can record a telephonic conversation held with the patient using the Communication panel. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Select the applicable reason from the left pane of the Communication panel. Select Add. Note: If you want to document only outgoing call details, select the Outgoing Call button. The corresponding template opens. In the template, enter the appropriate details in the Call Information, Contact Information, Communication, Comments , and Actions sections. Note: You can use the My Phrases link at the top-right of the Comments field to add comments. For more information on managing and using the My Phrases functionality, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the Getting Started User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. If you want to task the details to a recipient for any further action, select Priority and select the priority of the task. Select Send & Close.The Select Task Recipient template opens. Add a Patient Communication
Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Access the Communications panel. Select the appropriate link on the Communication Tool pane on the left to indicate that type of patient contact being recorded: Medication Management Medical Question Test Result Request Referral Request Forms/Records Billing Question Outgoing Call Other The arrow to the left indicates which link is currently selected. The number to the right of the link shows that number of previously entered communications for that type of call. If you select a link, the previously entered communications for that type appear in the grid with the most recent call at that top of the list. Select Add.The appropriate telephone communications template appears. Medication Management In the Call Information section, select the Contact Type field, and select the call type.
