Delete a Medication

You can delete any medication that was prescribed to a patient. Depending on your system settings, you may be required to select a reason that explains why you are deleting a previously prescribed medication. When applicable, the system sends a CancelRx notification to the pharmacy to ensure the prescription is not unintentionally dispensed to the patient. In the medications list, highlight the medication that you want to delete. Select Delete. A message informs you that a CancelRx message may be sent to the pharmacy and a deletion reason may be required. Select Yes to confirm deleting the selected medication. If deletion reasons are required for previously prescribed medications, the Deletion Reason Selection window opens. Deletion Reason Selection Select a reason for the deletion, and then select OK. If the medication was previously sent to a pharmacy and the prescriber is enrolled in the Cancel Rx service level, the Cancel Medication window displays a message to inform you a CancelR

Medication Status

Each medication entered into a patient's record has a corresponding medication status which is displayed in the first column of the medications list. The following table describes the medication statuses: Medication Status Status means that medication was Active Prescribed to a patient, who is actively using the medication. Inactive Prescribed to the patient, however the patient is not taking the medication at the present time. Pending Prescribed to the patient with the Start Date set in the future. Temporary Prescribed to the patient and is displayed on the medication list, but was not saved yet. Deleted Deleted. If applicable, a Cancel Rx message was sent to the pharmacy to ensure the medication is not dispensed to the patient. Active status is assigned to a medication when you save the prescription. If the prescribed medication reaches the specified stop date, Inactive status is assigned to the medication. You can change the medication status manually at any time. Note: The medicati

Stopping Medications

You are able to stop a medication that was prescribed to a patient. When you stop an active medication, the Medications module adds the current date as the stop date and then moves the medication to the Inactive section. Cancel an Electronic Prescription In the Medications module, you can cancel a prescribed medicine and send a cancellation message to a participating pharmacy. Tracking the eRx Status The eRx Status and Dispense History windows enable you to track the status of cancelled electronic prescriptions. eRx Custom Denial Reasons

You can create and use unique denial reasons to explain why an electronic refill request is denied. Use the codes in the same way as the standard Surescripts denial codes. The custom codes give the physicians more options to select from when an electronic prescription must be denied for a specific reason. For example, physicians who are not ePCS-certified might create the custom code Cannot eRx Controlled Substances to use if they receive refill requests for controlled substances. When a physician responds to an electronic refill request with a denial and selects a custom denial reason, the reason is sent through SureScripts to the pharmacy. You can create custom denial reasons in File Maintenance from Master Lists > eRx Custom Denial Reasons. Activate the Prompt for Prescribed Medication Deletion Reason

You can activate a prompt so that when a user deletes a prescribed medication in the Medications module, the prompt appears and user can select a deletion reason. In the System Administrator application, open the Universal Preferences > Medications > Prompt for prescribed meds deletion reason. Set the preference to True. Note: When the preference is set to False, no prompt appears in the Medication module. Select OK. For a complete list of the Universal Preferences for medications, see Medication Preferences.
