Activate the Prompt for Prescribed Medication Deletion Reason

You can activate a prompt so that when a user deletes a prescribed medication in the Medications module, the prompt appears and user can select a deletion reason. In the System Administrator application, open the Universal Preferences > Medications > Prompt for prescribed meds deletion reason. Set the preference to True. Note: When the preference is set to False, no prompt appears in the Medication module. Select OK. For a complete list of the Universal Preferences for medications, see Medication Preferences. To allow users to apply a reason when they delete previously prescribed medications, you must activate the Prompt for Prescribed Medication Deletion Reason and add custom reasons that users can select. The system includes a history of the deleted medication for traceability and may send a CancelRx request to the pharmacy to ensure the prescription is not dispensed to the patient. Medication Reasons

NextGen® Enterprise EHR uses the Medication Reasons master file as a repository for the reasons that a medication is being prescribed in the Medications Module. This reason becomes part of the Sig for the prescribed medication. File Maintenance includes a default list of reasons, but you can add custom reasons. To add a medication reason: From the Master Files > System, select Medication Reasons. The Medications Reasons List window opens. From the list, do one of the following: To add a new item, select Open Menu , and then select New. To modify an item, select the item in the list, select Open Menu , and then select Open. In the Add/Modify Medication Reasons Information window, enter the name of the reason in the Medication Reason Description field and, if necessary, enter a Note. For the reasons that were installed by default, the Note field displays the text System Generated. Delete a Medication

You can delete any medication that was prescribed to a patient. Depending on your system settings, you may be required to select a reason that explains why you are deleting a previously prescribed medication. When applicable, the system sends a CancelRx notification to the pharmacy to ensure the prescription is not unintentionally dispensed to the patient. In the medications list, highlight the medication that you want to delete. Select Delete. A message informs you that a CancelRx message may be sent to the pharmacy and a deletion reason may be required. Select Yes to confirm deleting the selected medication. If deletion reasons are required for previously prescribed medications, the Deletion Reason Selection window opens. Deletion Reason Selection Select a reason for the deletion, and then select OK. Acknowledge Medication Deletions

If you selected a medication or an administered medication for deletion, then when you select Confirm, the Deleting dispensed medication window appears and lists the medication. This message is informational only, as it is not possible to stop the deletion once you have clicked Confirm. Deleting Dispensed Medication Message Select OK. If you view the medication later in the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Medication module, the entry for that medication shows a Status value of "Deleted" and a Deletion Reason of "External Deletion."
