Delete a Medication

You can delete any medication that was prescribed to a patient. Depending on your system settings, you may be required to select a reason that explains why you are deleting a previously prescribed medication. When applicable, the system sends a CancelRx notification to the pharmacy to ensure the prescription is not unintentionally dispensed to the patient.

  1. In the medications list, highlight the medication that you want to delete.
  2. Select Delete.
A message informs you that a CancelRx message may be sent to the pharmacy and a deletion reason may be required.
  3. Select Yes to confirm deleting the selected medication.
If deletion reasons are required for previously prescribed medications, the Deletion Reason Selection window opens.

  4. Select a reason for the deletion, and then select OK.
If the medication was previously sent to a pharmacy and the prescriber is enrolled in the Cancel Rx service level, the Cancel Medication window displays a message to inform you a CancelRx message will be automatically sent to the pharmacy when you choose to stop, mark ineffective, or delete a medication.
  5. Select OK.
A Deleting dispensed medication confirmation message appears stating that the medication has been printed, faxed, or sent electronically and that the deletion will be audited.
  6. Select OK.
The medication status changes to Deleted. If the Deletion Reason column appears, the deletion reason is displayed in that column.
