Set up Default Document View Preferences

You can set the default view of a document when you open a patient chart in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. In the User Settings section on the Documents tab , select the default view from the Default TX Text View list. Select Apply. Select OK. Parent topic: Documents Preferences

The Documents tab enables you to set up documents preferences for the following: Viewers by document type A default generator and a default printer for documents opened from a template trigger and generated offline using the Document Queue utility Checking spelling in documents (TX Text viewer only) Setting the default view for documents Note: If you are using the Document Builder application with the TX Text Control®, the Documents tab of the Preferences window displays a Generating section. If you are using the Document Builder application with the HighEdit Control®, the Documents tab of the Preferences window does not include the Generating section. The following document type preferences and the default viewers are available: RTF Documents. TX Text, Word Application Text Documents. TX Text, Word Application Word Documents. Default Generator and Printer Preferences

You can set the default generator and a default printer for the documents generated from a template trigger and generated offline using the Document Queue utility. The preferences in the Generating section apply only to the documents that are generated offline from a Launch Document template trigger using the Document Queue utility for the TX Text Control. The preference settings are specific to each user machine. If no default preferences are set, documents are sent to the first available running instance of Document Queue and the default Windows printer. If you generate documents offline using the Documents module, you can select the generator and printer on the Generate Document window. In the Generating section, from the Default Generator list, select the default machine for running the Document Queue utility. Note: To the Default Generator list, you must first turn on the Document Queue utility. Select the printer you want from the Default Printer list, that displays the printers

Document Generation Options

Destination Description Immediate Generates the document immediately and opens it in the designated viewer. You can do one of the following: To save the document to the patient' chart, you can select the Save check box. To print the document on the default windows printer for your workstation, you can select the Print check box to print the document on the default windows printer for your workstation. The document is automatically saved to the patient chart. You can also print the document after it is generated. Offline Generates the document offline and saves it to the patient's chart using the TX Text Document Queue utility. When you select the Offline option, the Generate Server and Printer fields are displayed. Note: You can select a Document Queue processing option to process only documents sent to the machine running the current instance of the utility. Use of the Default Windows Printer

Document generation within the NextGen® Enterprise EHR, including the Document Queue / Offline Document Processor (ODP) utility, depends upon the Windows default printer of the machine on which the application is running. Every time a document is opened and/or generated, the document control queries the Windows default printer to identify acceptable fonts, page size, page margins, and other document properties. As such, a default printer must be specified at the Windows level for any server/workstation used to generate documents, both from within the NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and from the ODP. Not specifying a default Windows printer can lead to document generation performance issues, with potential symptoms including: blank documents; taking several minutes to generate a document; seeing {macro names} on documents; and other unforeseen consequences.
