Using the Data Share Module to Import and Export Clinical Data

You can use the Data Share module, a feature of NextGen® Enterprise EHR, to import and export Continuity of Care Document (CCD) and Consolidated Clinical Document Architecture (C-CDA) files to and from designated folders and exchange clinical information with other providers, patients, and institutions such as regional health information organizations (RHIOs) and the Health Information Systems Program (HISP). This Data Share module serves the same function as the Medical Summary Utility but provides a simpler user interface and superior performance. The Medical Summary Utility continues to be available, but its use is deprecated. An earlier version of the Data Share module provided access only to the NextGen® Share Carequality Service. The old version is still available for the convenience of existing users. Configure Security for Exported Files

When NextGen Healthcare Support configures the NextGen® Enterprise Rosetta Interface Messenger for you, they can configure an agent to handle file exports from the Data Share module. As part of this configuration, they specify the folder where files are exported to. To ensure the security of exported patient Protected Health Information (PHI), you should Use Windows folder and file security options to ensure that the exported files folder can be accessed only by trusted personnel. Ensure that physical access to the server is limited to trusted personnel. If you copy the files to a portable media device, encrypt the device or the exported files using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) – 128-bit or higher. This step is needed to ensure compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) requirements for security of patients’ medical information. To import and export with the Data Share module, you must have licensed the NextGen® Clinical Interface Bundle and arranged for NextGen Healthcare Support to install and configure the following tools: NextGen® Enterprise Rosetta Interface Messenger HIE Gateway To enable the Data Share module to export documents to NextGen® PxP Portal, you must install the NextGen® Patient Access API. Configuring the Environment for the Data Share Module

You can use System Administrator to configure global settings for the Data Share module that control Whether to use the enhanced or original version of the Data Share module. Which HIE Gateway instance to use. Which users are allowed to perform various actions. Select the Data Share Module Version You can select whether to use the original or enhanced version of the Data Share module. The original version is specific toNextGen® Share Carequality Service, whereas the enhanced version supports a variety of endpoints in addition to Carequality. Choose the HIE Gateway Instance You can use System Administrator to specify which HIE Gateway instance is used by the Data Share module and the Medical Summary Utility. Configure User Access Rights You can use System Administrator to specify which user groups are allowed to run the Data Share module and which actions they can perform.
