You must ensure your medication drug database is up to date. About Medication Update

NextGen® Enterprise EHR receives immunization information from First Databank, a third-party vendor. This content is typically released on a monthly basis, but is accelerated to include the codes of newly approved vaccines, if available. The first monthly package containing COVID-19 vaccine code sets was released in December 2020. New codes that are added in anticipation of potential vaccine availability under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), are available on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) webpage. Note: To ensure that your system contains the latest COVID-19 vaccine content, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest Medication Update. View Patient Medications

Before you begin You must ensure that you have the View access right enabled in MODULES > Medical Records > Medications in System Administrator. For more information on user access rights, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest System Administrator Guide forNextGen®Enterprise. You can view a quick list of the patient's active medications and also open the Medications module to add, update, or reconcile the patient's medications. A total count of the patient's active medications appears on the Medications button on the Quick Buttons panel. Note: The icon indicates that the patient account does not have any active medications records and the No Active Medications check box in Medication Module is not selected. Medications

You can document and manage the medication history and current medications of a patient. You can use the Medications panel to view the patient's current medications and medication history, enter additional prescriptions for the patient, and reconcile the medications listed with the actual active medications for the patient. You can use the No medications this encounter check box if there are no active medications for the patient. ePCS Message Handling Processes

To handle Electronic Prescriptions of Controlled Substances (ePCS) messages, NextGen Healthcare has the following processes in place: NextGen® Enterprise EHR uses RSA to digitally sign the ePCS message and SHA1 algorithm to hash ePCS messages. The application includes a time stamp within five minutes of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) time source. NextGen® Enterprise EHR uses time server provided by Symantec® VIP service, which is Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) compliant. The application displays the following information to the provider prior to dispensation of the controlled substance: Date of issuance Full name of the patient Medication name Dosage strength of medication Form of medication Quantity of medication Directions for use of medication Number of refills authorized Earliest fill date of the medication Name, address, and DEA number of the provider Attestation statement Indication that each controlled substance is ready for signing NextGen® Enterpr

eRx Refill Requests Matches

Prescription requests are matched as follows: Terms Description Match Order If a Prescribe Order Number is present but not found in a patient chart, the pharmacy receives an error, and the request is not sent to the provider. Match Provider If a Surescripts® Provider Identifier (SPI) is not present in the Provider Master File, the pharmacy receives an error. The request is sent back to the pharmacy with an Unknown Provider status and is not sent to the provider. Match Pharmacy If the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs Processor ID (NCPDP ID) is not in the Pharmacy Master File, NextGen® Communication Services attempts to download the pharmacy from the NextGen Surescripts Server. If the pharmacy is not available to be downloaded, an error is returned to the pharmacy. If the pharmacy download is successful, the pharmacy match is made.
