Define New Specimen Charges

Select File Maintenance > Master Files > System > Specimen Charges. The Specimen Charge List window opens. Select the Open Menu button, and then select New. The Add Specimen Charge window opens. Select the Open Record button. The Specimen SIM Code Search window opens. Select the Description to search by description name. The appears in the column header. Enter the test name. Select the test in the Available list, and then select the Include button. The test moves from the Available list to the Included list. To remove a test, select the test in the Included list, and then select the Exclude button. The test moves from the Included list to the Available list. Select OK. SIMs Groups in the Orders Tests Master File

When multiple procedures are performed for particular types of encounter or appointments, you can set up one Service Item Group (SIM Group) code that includes all the SIM codes and descriptions for all of the procedures. SIM Groups enable you to enter one code during charge posting for multiple procedures and their associated charges. You can then be more efficient and error-free as you enter charges for multiple procedures that are typically performed together. For example, if your practice frequently does childhood immunizations, you could set up a SIM Group called "CHIMM", which would include all the CPT4® codes and descriptions for each immunization for the office encounter. Configure Charge Submission for Orders

For your practice to post charges for performing laboratory and diagnostic tests, you can define the charge using the Service Item (SIM) code or SIM group code for the test. You must also configure the schedule for posting charges on ordered tests for all types of performing entities, including any for in-house testing. CAUTION: If your practice uses templates to place orders and manage charges, do not use charge posting in the Orders module as it can result in duplicate charges. Retrieving Charge Amount in Cost Estimation

Charge amount is the amount a healthcare provider sets for the rendering services before applying any discounts. The pricing for a service depends on whether the place of service is a facility or non-facility location. If you are the administrator, you can set the Non-Facility Price and Facility Price fields for a specific SIM code in the SIM library and SIM exception. When you estimate the patient cost, the value for the charge amount is returned as follows: If the charge amount is set in the SIM exception and SIM library, the value in the SIM exception returns. Setting Charges for Tests Using the Manual Method

When you order a test, you can submit charges when you collect the specimen in your local practice's office. If you have set up charges for specimen collection for your practice, you can select the specimen and quantity from the Specimen Charge list. Parent topic: Test Details Tab

In the Test Details tab for your test orders, you can enter the test name, collection details and AOE questions. If you select a test in the Test Name list and then select the Select to display Specimen handling details link, the Specimen Handling Information window opens, showing details on the collection of the test specimen. The detail for the test specimen and AOE questions is entered using File Maintenance when you create the Orders test code. You select Order Tests in Master Files. There is a tab on each record for Specimen Handling where you can input the information for this test. Under the Options tab there is also a section for entering Ask at Order Entry Questions information. In the center of the Test Details tab, in the Collection Date/Time field, you can assign a collection time for the order.
