Verify the CPT4 Code in the Service Item Library

Prior to selecting and ordering Immunizations, verify the CPT4® in the SIM Library. Select File Maintenance > Libraries > Service Items. The Service Items List window opens. Double-click the default Service Item Library for your practice. Note: The default Service Item Library is indicated by a green color check mark under the Practice Default column. Enter the CPT4® code in the Search field. If the code exists, it appears in CPT4 Code. To verify if your alternate Medicare Billing code exists, enter the Q code in the Search field. Note: If the CPT4® code or Q code does not exist, you must set up the Service Item Library. Create SIM Groups in a Service Item Library

Orders module charge posting also looks at SIM Groups which are set up in File Maintenance in the Service Item Libraries. You must first define a Service Item library, and add service items to the library before you can create a SIM group. Select File Maintenance > Libraries > Service Items. Right-click the Service Item library for which you want to create a SIM Group. The Service Items List window opens. Select SIM Groups from the list. Select the open menu button, and then select New. The SIM Group Maintenance window opens. Define the SIM Group ID and Description. SIM Group. This is a numeric or alphabetic ID that you use to identify this SIM Group. Description. The description you choose for this SIM Group. Service Item #. This is the list of service items contained in this group. Select in the Service Item #. Select the SIM ID to have the focus on that parameter. Put in the SIM ID you want in the Search Criteria in the Available pane. Select the blue Right Arrow to move the item to

SIM Groups

When multiple procedures are performed for particular types of encounter or appointments, you can set up one Service Item Group (SIM Group) code that includes all the SIM codes and descriptions for all of the procedures. SIM Groups enable you to enter one code during charge posting for multiple procedures and their associated charges. You can create a SIM Group with only one SIM and the single SIM can be added to the group multiple times. You can then be more efficient and error-free as you enter charges for multiple procedures that are typically performed together. For example, if your practice frequently does childhood immunizations, you could set up a SIM Group called "CHIZ", which would include all the CPT4 codes and descriptions for each immunization and the office encounter. Using Advanced Service Item Library Mode

The Advanced Service Item Library Mode feature provides the ability to set pricing for tests and services based on how various payers divide the country into geographical regions. If you need to set up test pricing for your practice that is based on regions, the Advanced Service Item Library Mode is the way to accomplish this. You can set prices by configuring locations into payer centric groupings. As an example, Medicare may have different regional groupings than Aetna, and pricing is determined accordingly. In addition, the concept of SIM Pricing Templates was introduced to support the management of prices using parent/child relationships between libraries.If you do not need to set up payment based on pricing regions, do not use this parameter. SIM Groups for Service Items

You can initiate the cost estimation for a patient or person using an appointment, encounter, a person or people lookup, or the taskbar menu. Irrespective of what you use to initiate the process, you can set up a Service Item Group (SIM Group) code that includes all SIM codes and the descriptions for all services. It makes the cost estimation process more efficient and error-free as you enter charges for multiple services that are typically performed together. In File Maintenance, you can configure a SIM Group based on the location or payer. Service Items Library

The Service Items library is the center of the billing functions. Within the Service Items library you can set up CPT4 codes for each practice, along with prices, and claim form designations. You can also group Service Items together under one main number or name. Libraries are available enterprise-wide, but each practice must designate which Service Items library to use by selecting it in the Libraries Practice Preferences. You can generate the Service Item Library Listing report from the Service Items library.
