Before you begin
Ensure that you have configured the encounter inheritance settings for
Encounters on the
Practice Preferences window in File Maintenance.
When you have a patient chart open, you can create an encounter for the patient. Each new encounter may inherit information such as Encounter Details and Insurance from the previous encounter in the patient chart. You can add templates, documents, images, and other patient items to the new encounter. You can also assign insurance, enter remarks, and associate a program to an encounter.
- Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a patient from Patient Lookup window.
- To create an encounter, do one of the following:
- On the Patient Information Card (PIC), select New Encounter.
- On the PIC, select Profile Options
, and then select New Encounter.
- On the Encounter History tab, select New Encounter.
- From the File menu, select .
NextGen® Enterprise EHR creates an encounter with the current date on the
Encounter History tab. On the PIC, the
Selected Encounter indicator displays
Today.
Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR creates only Clinical enter encounters by default.
Note: A warning message appears if another unlocked encounter exists for the same date.
- To modify the Encounter Types so that the encounter to appears in NextGen® Enterprise PM, do one of the following:
- Select .
- On the Encounter History tab, select an encounter, and select Encounter Options
, and then select Properties.
The
Encounter Maintenance window opens. When the charges are submitted from the clinical encounter, the
Encounter Types field displays
Clinical and
Billable.
Note: When you try to create an encounter for a patient whose case is locked on the patient chart, a message appears stating that you cannot create an encounter for a locked case, and suggests you to select an unlocked case or create a case. You can also unlock the case or the clear the View Case Management check box in the user-level settings on the Encounter History tab and create an encounter.
