Manage Encounters at Practice-Level

You can customize the appearance of the Encounters at the practice level with System Administrator privileges. You can set patient’s encounter preferences for the encounter display, encounter filters, encounter component expansion, and inclusion of Case Management, if applicable. Encounters are identified by date and time, provider, and location. You can choose which information to include, its format, and its order. You can also choose to include remarks.

  1. Open File Maintenance.
  2. Under Master Files, select EHR, and then select Application Appearance.
    The EHR Application Appearance window opens displaying the preview of the Patient Information Card (PIC), Quick Buttons, Encounters, and Categories for the Default configuration.
  3. Select the required configuration, and then select Edit.

  4. Select the Encounter History tab.

  5. Under the My Patient History Settings | General section, do the following:
    1. To open a patient in the Encounters or Categories tab in NextGen® Enterprise EHR by default, in Default View, select the desired option.
    2. To open the NextGen Document Management images in NextGen Document Management or NextGen® Enterprise EHR by default, in NextGen Document Management Items select, Open in NextGen Document Management or Open in NextGen EHR.
    3. To limit the display of patient encounters to the current practice in NextGen® Enterprise EHR, in Enterprise Chart, select the Only Show Encounters From This Practice checkbox.
  6. Under the My Patient History Settings | Encounter History section, do the following:
    1. To change the format for Date, Time and Provider, select the corresponding checkbox and select the desired option from the list.
    2. To set the display date in encounter display row, select Use Encounter Date or Use Billable Date.
    3. To view the location, remarks, and encounter number in the encounter display row, select the appropriate checkboxes.
    4. To set the display order of items in encounter display row, select and move the items horizontally in Encounter Display Order and Sample Display.
      You can preview the changes in the sample display section.
    5. To view the visit type, specialty, and diagnoses (for billable encounters) in the Encounters tab, in Content to Display Below Encounter Data, select the appropriate checkboxes.
    6. To display a list of templates used during the encounter, in Show/Hide Template Links, select the desired option. Select from the Show for All Encounters, Show for Most Recent Encounter, Hide for All Encounters, or Show for Unlocked Encounters checkboxes.
    7. To view the cases associated with the selected patient, select the View Case Management checkbox, f your practice is using Case Management.
    8. To view the billable and optical encounters, select the appropriate checkbox.
  7. Select Save.
