Create Barcode Separator Sheets

Before you begin

  • Make sure that the document type you want to display in barcode form on the separator sheet includes Medical Record Number, Person Number, and Encounter Number fields, and these fields are configured for auto search.
  • Create a form template that includes data fields that display with a barcode font. To create barcode form templates, refer to Print Barcode Form Templates
You can include the patient and document type on one sheet or have them on separate sheets.
NextGen® Document Management supports the following patient barcode data fields on separator sheets:
  • Patient Medical Record # (for example, NGMRN:000000001234)
  • Person Number (for example, NGPN:1234)
  • Encounter Number (for example, NGEN:1234)
  1. Open File Maintenance.
  2. In Master Files, select System, and then select Form Templates.
  3. In Form Templates List, select the open menu button, and then select New.
    The Form Design window opens.
  4. On the toolbar, select Insert Data Field.

  5. Select the following data fields from the list. and then drag them onto the form:
    • System Information > System Master File Text (Barcode)
    • Patient Information > Patient Medical Record # and Person Number (Doc Mgmt Separator)
    • Encounter Information > Encounter Number (Doc Mgmt Separator)
  6. On the form, right-click one of the data fields, and then select Font > All Data Fields.
    The Font window opens.
  7. Select the WASP 39 MC font, the Regular font style, and the 28 point size.

  8. Select OK.
    All the data fields on the form appear with the same barcode font.
  9. Enter some text at the top of the form to indicate the document type you want to associate with the separator sheet.
  10. On the Form Design toolbar, select Save Form Template.
    The Save Form Template window opens.
  11. Enter a form template name that indicates the purpose of the form, and then select OK.
  12. Optional: Print the form template.
