Update a Dermatology Order for Pathology

For Dermatology patients, if the revised diagnosis is malignant and you enter the updated diagnosis into the Diagnosis field in the Pathology Results section, the same diagnosis appears in the Skin Cancer Log grid on the Biopsy Log and on the Home Page.

  1. Select the Dermatology specialty, and perform a search for Dermatology orders.
  2. Highlight a Dermatology order in the Pathology Orders grid.
    Information in the row displays in the fields of the Pathology Results section for Dermatology patients.
  3. Click the Accession # field and type the accession number or case number assigned by the laboratory for the specimen.
  4. Click the Specimen ID field and select the specimen ID letter assigned to the specimen.
  5. Click the Diagnosis field and use the diagnosis search tool to select the diagnosis suggested by the laboratory report.
  6. Click the Recommended Treatment field and select the recommended treatment from the list.
  7. If you have not treated the lesion, select No for the Lesion has been treated question.
  8. If you have treated the lesion, select Yes.
    A Treatment date field appears with today's date. To change the date, click the field and select another date. An Actual treatment field also appears. To specify the actual treatment, click the field and select a treatment from the list. If the actual treatment does not appear on the list, select the top blank entry in the list and type the actual treatment into the field.
  9. If the patient refused treatment, select the Patient refused treatment check box.
  10. When you update the order, the Status changes to completed.
    The patient refusal is also reflected in Order Management.
  11. If the patient is subsequently treated, you can clear the Patient refused treatment check box.
  12. Change any other data as required.
  13. Click Update Order.
