Generate and Save a Benign Pathology Letter

For those patients who have confirmed benign pathology results, you can generate and customize a letter that can be sent to notify patients of the results. The letter can be saved with the encounter so that it is a permanent part of the medical record. From the Biopsy Log, select a record in the Pathology Orders grid. The data for that record fills the Pathology Results section. For Dermatology patients, select the Launch Patient Chart link that displays in the Pathology Results section. The Patient Chart for the selected patient appears. For other specialties, open the patient chart and, if necessary, open a new encounter for the patient. To open the Documents and Letters template, do one of the following: Use Template Launcher in the History toolbar to open the Documents and Letters template. Select the specialty and select Patient Communication as the visit type. Then select Document Library in the navigation bar or the sub-navigation link to open the Documents and Letters template.

Send Tasks Regarding a Pathology Order or Results

<Placeholder> Tasks related to a pathology order can be sent to others within the practice for further action. Tasking sends order details to the recipient. Select the specialty and perform a search for the pathology order record. Highlight the record in the Pathology Orders grid. The details of the selected record display in the Pathology Results section of the Biopsy Log. Click the Quick Task button. The Quick Task Priority template opens. Note: To display the Quick Task Priority template, you must first select the Allow Override check box on the Quick Task Setup template. Click the Task priority field and select the applicable priority from the list. Click Save & Send. Note: The task recipient is configured in the Practice Configuration practice template. If you do not configure the task recipient in the practice template, the Quick Task Setup template automatically opens from the Quick Task button to configure the quick task functionality. Update Order for Specimen Obtained During Procedure

Select the All Others specialty, and perform a search for pathology orders. Highlight an order in the Pathology Orders grid. Information in the row displays in the fields of the Pathology Results section. Click the Accession # field and type the accession number or case number assigned by the laboratory for the specimen. Click the Specimen ID field and select the specimen ID letter assigned to the specimen. Click the Body Location field and type in the body location the specimen was obtained from. Click the Biopsy Type field and type in the type of biopsy performed. Click the Diagnosis field and use the diagnosis search tool to select the diagnosis suggested by the laboratory report. Note: The Diagnosis field will display the diagnosis and code previously selected during the procedure. Click the Pathology Results field and type in results of the biopsy reported by the pathology. Click the Additional diagnosis details field and select an additional descriptor for the diagnosis. To enter

Record a Patient/Provider Has Been Notified of Results

If a patient or a patient's provider (PCP or referring provider) has been notified of pathology results, you can record that information, including the date and method of notification. Select the specialty and perform a search for the pathology order record. Highlight the record in the Pathology Orders grid. The details of the selected record display in the Pathology Results panel of the Biopsy Log. To indicate that a patient has been notified, navigate to the Pathology Results section of the Pathology Orders panel and select the Patient Notified check box. The On date field displays the current date. To change the date, click the On field and use the calendar to select a different date. Click the Method field and select the method used to contact the patient. To record that the patient's PCP or referring provider has been notified, repeat these steps after selecting the appropriate provider check box. Click Update. Update an Ambulatory Surgery Order

For Ambulatory Surgery patients, if the revised diagnosis is malignant and you enter the updated diagnosis into the Diagnosis field in the Pathology Results section, the same diagnosis appears in the grid on the Biopsy Log and on the Home Page. Select the Ambulatory Surgery specialty, and perform a search for Ambulatory Surgery orders. Highlight an Ambulatory Surgery order in the Pathology Orders grid. Information in the row displays in the fields of the Pathology Results section for ambulatory surgery patients. Click the Accession # field and type the accession number or case number assigned by the laboratory for the specimen. Click the Site Specific field and select the specimen ID letter assigned to the specimen. Click the Procedure description field and select the appropriate service item ID and description from the list. Click the first Diagnosis field and use the diagnosis search tool to select the diagnosis suggested by the laboratory report. Repeat this step for each Diagnosis

Update a Dermatology Order for Pathology

For Dermatology patients, if the revised diagnosis is malignant and you enter the updated diagnosis into the Diagnosis field in the Pathology Results section, the same diagnosis appears in the Skin Cancer Log grid on the Biopsy Log and on the Home Page. Select the Dermatology specialty, and perform a search for Dermatology orders. Highlight a Dermatology order in the Pathology Orders grid. Information in the row displays in the fields of the Pathology Results section for Dermatology patients. Click the Accession # field and type the accession number or case number assigned by the laboratory for the specimen. Click the Specimen ID field and select the specimen ID letter assigned to the specimen. Click the Diagnosis field and use the diagnosis search tool to select the diagnosis suggested by the laboratory report. Click the Recommended Treatment field and select the recommended treatment from the list. If you have not treated the lesion, select No for the Lesion has been treated question
