Set Up Orderable Guideline Test Items

You can set up an orderable guideline test item on the Care Guidelines Setup template. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From File, select System \ Practice Template. The Select Template window opens. On the Practice tab, select the All option. Select Care Guideline Setup, and then select OK. The Care Guideline Setup practice template opens. Expand the Intervention/Orders Setup panel, select a reason type from the list, and then select a Condition/Reason. The grid refreshes with the list of all guideline reasons from the Define Guideline Reasons & Auto Application panel. You can filter the grid to view tests only in the selected guideline. Select an order type in Intervention/Test type. The selected guideline or test type filters test names that appear in Intervention/Test name. Select Intervention/Test name. In Apply to, select a gender code from the list. By default, the gender specified for the guideline in the Define Guideline Reasons and Auto Application panel appears. In the Standard

Activating a Care Guideline

You can activate a care guideline for a patient on the Activate Care Guidelines template. You must activate a patient's care guideline for health maintenance or a disease condition before you use the care guidelines for the patient. You can activate guidelines in the Active Guidelines panel on the Activate Care Guidelines template. An application message appears if you want to re-apply an already activated guideline. You can re-apply a guideline if certain items within the guideline are not being followed and you need to add them now. Note: When you re-apply a guideline, the application checks through all of the guideline items that are already active, and applies those items in the set that are missing. If there is a test found in more than one guideline activated for the patient, only one test will be maintained. The application calculates the Due Date for that test based on the settings found for the earliest start age, the latest stop age, and the shortest interval of the activated

Defining Guideline Reasons and Auto Application

You can use the Define Guideline Reasons & Auto Application panel to define the care guidelines condition or reason. The Define Guideline Reasons & Auto Application panel is used to set up a guideline for a condition or reason type, with criteria for birth sex, start and stop ages, and diagnosis category. The settings on this panel determine on which patients the guideline can be applied to. The Guidelines Conditions/Reasons for Reason type are created, updated, or removed from guideline in this panel. Guidelines can be configured to be applied automatically to patients by selecting the Auto-apply Yes check box. You can set Birth Sex, Start age, Stop age, and Diagnosis group for a guideline to determine when the system should automatically apply a guideline. These settings apply only when auto-apply is yes. Create a Personalized Orderable Item

You can create a personalized orderable guideline item for a patient. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Select the Care Guidelines link on any of the main template. The Care Guidelines Paged View template opens. Expand the Care Guidelines panel and select the Add Orderable link. The Personalized Reminder/Orderables template opens. In the Guideline field, select a test from a DB picklist of orderable guideline tests that are associated with a guideline on the Care Guidelines Setup practice template. Personalized Reminder/Orderable Note: If the tests are not displayed in this list, you can set up a generic guideline condition or reason on the Care Guidelines Setup practice template as a place holder, to which you can associate the additional tests you want to see in this list. You must not activate or apply this generic test holder guideline to a patient, but it allows the tests associated with it to be included in this list. Modify an Individual Guideline Item for a Patient

You can modify an individual guideline item for a patient on the Care Guidelines Paged View template. An orderable guideline item can be modified at the patient level. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Care Guidelines Paged View template. For an orderable guideline item, select the link below the item’s name. Dental Exam The Modify Intervals and Effective Ages template opens. The Current section shows the values for Interval, Start age, and Stop age currently set for the orderable item. The Default section shows the default standard values for Interval, Start age, and Stop age for the orderable item. These values are configured on the Care Guidelines Setup practice template in the Intervention/Orders Setup panel in the Standard settings section. Create Guidelines

You can create a guideline for a patient using the Define Guidelines Reasons & Auto Application on the Care Guideline Setup template. Before you begin You must select the Auto-Apply checkbox to make the Gender, Start age, Stop age, and Diagnosis group fields available. Otherwise, you must manually apply the guideline to patients if you choose to follow it. This can be done during encounter workflow. A guideline with Auto-Apply selected is not applied to a patient when a diagnosis has the Inactive or Resolved status. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From File, select System \ Practice Template.
