Documenting a Referral Order

In the Referrals Orders template in the tabbed template set, you can place or manage orders for referrals for other specialists, locations, therapies, and durable medical equipment (DME). When a referral includes attachments (for example, documents, NextGen® Enterprise EHR images, NextGen® Document Management images, and SAP® Crystal Reports®) that are generated during an encounter that is marked sensitive, the referral is also marked as sensitive. You are notified that sensitive information is being added to the referral and given the opportunity to continue documenting the referral with the sensitive attachment or returning to the Referral Attachments template to change the selection of attachments. Referrals Attachments is the only template enables the selection of attachments to a referral. Adding Alerts for Referral Orders that Include Sensitive Information

You can add alerts for referral orders. When you select an attachment in a sensitive encounter, this is indicated in the Attachments field on the Referrals Order and Referral Management templates with the following text: *Attachments exist – see Details (includes attachments from sensitive encounters)* When the Referrals document is generated, it prints out the text of the Attachments field. Enter a Referral for Durable Medical Equipment

To select the insurance provider from the resulting list, on the Referrals tab, select the Insurance name field. In the Policy # field, enter the insurance policy number. Flag an Attachment that Includes Sensitive Information

You can flag an attachment that has sensitive information. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. To open the Referral Attachments template, on the Referrals Order template, in the Attachments section, select Details. To select from the resulting list of possible documents and images from the patient’s chart that can be attached to the referral, select any of the eight available attachment fields. Note: On the list, a Yes in the Sensitive column reveals that the attachment is from an encounter that is marked as sensitive. As you select attachments, notice the red Sensitive text that appears to the right of the attachment label on the Referral Attachments template. To return to the Referrals Order template, select Save & Close. Note: If one or more selected attachments are from a sensitive encounter, a confirmation alert appears. To accept the attachments as is, select Yes on the alert window. The Referral Attachments template closes and text appears below the Attachment section that this referr

Document a Therapy Referral

You can select the Medications or Immunizations links at any time during the encounter to access the associated module. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. To select the insurance provider from the resulting list, on the Referrals tab, select the Insurance name field. In the Policy # field, enter the insurance policy number. In the To section, select Therapies/Rehabilitation, and do one of the following: Select a value from the resulting list. Select the top, blank row in the list to enter a therapy name in the field. Select the Location field and do one of the following: Select a value from the list. Select the top blank row to enter a location in the field.
