Enter a Referral for Durable Medical Equipment

You can updated topics as part of content improvement the Medications or Immunizations links at any time during the encounter to access the associated module.

  1. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
  2. To select the insurance provider from the resulting list, on the Referrals tab, select the Insurance name field.
  3. In the Policy # field, enter the insurance policy number.
  4. In the To section, select DME.
  5. To select a service item from the list, select the DME field.

  6. To document related details, select the Additional Information link.

  7. To indicate if authorization is required, select No or Yes.
  8. In the Diagnosis section, do the following:
    1. Select the Description field.
    2. If an assessment has not been documented for the patient encounter, select Add Assessment or Add Common assessment, and then select the Diagnosis field to enter it for the referral.
    3. Continue as needed in the three other available description fields.
  9. In the Services requested section, select the appropriate type of service.
  10. In the Clinical Indications section, document details in the Reason for Referral, time limit and Timeframe fields.
  11. Select Add.
  12. To return to the previous template with an entry for the new referral in the Referral History grid, select Close.
