Obtaining Test or Code Information for a Standard Office Procedure, Lab, and Diagnostic Orders

You can obtain test or code information for standard office, procedure, lab, and diagnostic orders to map with the corresponding care guidelines using the Order Management template. Most orders placed through templates for various office procedures and tests appear on the Order Management template for the patient. Basic test information for the codes and descriptions that need to be captured for associated guidelines to update can easily be reviewed from the Order Management template using example or test patients. Perform the following steps to obtain the test and code information for each order to map to guidelines. For a test patient on an existing or new encounter, open the Order Management template from the Templates module. Search the required order. Custom Templates with Custom Order Triggers

You can customize the templates with custom order triggers to satisfy a care guideline. If you have a customized template that are not NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine templates, and is used to upload the completed orders for patients, it is still possible to map test or code information to update care guidelines. While individual table or template fields cannot be used, almost any order that is submitted from a template with an Upload Extended Data trigger to the order_ table can be mapped to update a guideline. Review the details of the triggers on the template to obtain the test or code information being inserted to the order_ table. Obtaining Test or Code Information for Vaccines

You can review the test or code information for vaccines using the Vaccine Orders or Inventory list in File Maintenance. Updated CPT® codes for vaccines are published in advance, especially for common or seasonal items like the influenza vaccine. If the information is not available, you can review the Vaccine Orders/Inventory list in File Maintenance to note the vaccines and corresponding CPT codes. For specific patients, the vaccine CPT® can also be retrieved from the Immunizations module. Obtaining Test or Code Information for Codes Submitted to the Procedures Module

You can view the test or code information for codes submitted to Procedures module to satisfy a care guideline. When you want guidelines to update based on the codes submitted to the Procedures module, such as visit CPT® codes or billing codes, it is important to note that not all guidelines are updated from the Procedures module alone, and this functionality can vary depending on the NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine version and guideline. For instance, vaccines can be partially billed, so immunizations are never updated from the Procedures module. Additionally, it may not be appropriate for guidelines to update solely on billed codes as these are typically not sufficient evidence that a particular test is resulted, nor they are as easily canceled or removed if billed in error or are no longer applicable. In NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine 8.4.x and later, a separate section on the Data Sets Setup practice template enables you to specify codes for guideline

Obtaining Test or Code Information to be Mapped

You can obtain test or code information to map with the corresponding care guidelines on the practice templates. If it is available, obtain a list of the specific CPT® or test codes and descriptions that are used by your practice for each guideline. If the list is not available, you can review the procedures in this step to gather the codes and descriptions that are required to map the tests to guidelines. After the information is gathered, the tests can then be mapped to the corresponding guideline. Note: After you have the information for the test codes and descriptions to be mapped to corresponding care guidelines, you can proceed to mapping the codes on the practice templates. You can view the test or code information for screenings documented to satisfy a care guidelines using the Screening Tools template. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. On an encounter for a patient, open the Intake template. In the navigation bar, select the Screening Tools link. The Screening Tools template opens. Search the screening, then note the exact spelling listed in the Instrument column.
