Obtaining Test or Code Information for a Standard Office Procedure, Lab, and Diagnostic Orders

You can obtain test or code information for standard office, procedure, lab, and diagnostic orders to map with the corresponding care guidelines using the Order Management template. Most orders placed through templates for various office procedures and tests appear on the Order Management template for the patient. Basic test information for the codes and descriptions that need to be captured for associated guidelines to update can easily be reviewed from the Order Management template using example or test patients. Perform the following steps to obtain the test and code information for each order to map to guidelines. For a test patient on an existing or new encounter, open the Order Management template from the Templates module. Search the required order. Create a Custom Upload Extended Data Trigger to Update Care Guidelines

You can use a custom template with a custom trigger on a test patient to satisfy a care guideline. When using a custom template with a custom Upload Extended Data trigger that writes to the order_ table, certain fields must be completed for associated care guidelines to update correctly. Depending on the type of order, you may also need to add information using other available fields. Note: This procedure assumes that you have already mapped the custom order code and description using the template set. The Data Sets Setup practice template and the Test Codes data set are with the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine. CAUTION: As per standard recommendations, make and test all template and trigger changes in a test or development environment before moving these changes to production. Open Template Editor. You can obtain test or code information to map with the corresponding care guidelines on the practice templates. If it is available, obtain a list of the specific CPT® or test codes and descriptions that are used by your practice for each guideline. If the list is not available, you can review the procedures in this step to gather the codes and descriptions that are required to map the tests to guidelines. After the information is gathered, the tests can then be mapped to the corresponding guideline. Note: After you have the information for the test codes and descriptions to be mapped to corresponding care guidelines, you can proceed to mapping the codes on the practice templates. Set Up Tests and Orders to Update Care Guidelines

You can set up tests and orders to update care guidelines for a patient. A care guideline status is updated to completed when all of the following conditions are met: The ordering code (or description) is added to the guideline's list of Interventions/Test Equivalent Codes/Descriptions. The completed order type for the patient matches with the guideline type that is set. For example, lab guidelines will only update from lab orders. The order has both a valid Completed Date or Received Date along with a Completed or Results Received status. Mapping can be used to set up tests and orders to update guidelines, simplifying workflow in the process. These mapping procedures can be used by the care guidelines that comes shipped with NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine 8.3.x, 8.4.x and later. Map the Test or Code Information on the Care Guidelines Setup Practice Template

You can map the test or code information using the Care Guidelines Setup practice template. Practices can map test codes and descriptions to guidelines on the Interventions/Test Equivalent Codes/Descriptions panel of the Care Guidelines Setup practice template. You can specify items as exact equivalents and make items orderable on the Care Guidelines Paged View and the Care Guidelines grid view templates. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From File, select System \ Practice Template. The Select Template window opens. On the Practice tab, select the All option. Select Care Guideline Setup, and then select OK. The Care Guideline Setup practice template opens. Expand the Interventions/Test Equivalent Codes/Descriptions panel. Select the test name to be mapped from the list. Add the test information in the Intervention Equivalents.
