Managing Reference Systems
Creating a group is only beneficial if it is associated to a reference system, for example, order sets. A reference system is the logical grouping of diagnosis codes. The packaged reference systems are locked down to prevent breaking the system by removing crucial data.
In the Add Reference Systems section, fields are available to add new reference systems. If a new reference system is created, the system must account for existing code restrictions based on the reference system. When the Restrict Code check box is selected, the restriction takes effect and allows only one ICD-9 and 10 code. Information text displays as follows: "These categories have a maximum of 1 ICD-9 code and 1 ICD-10 code and are used to default a diagnosis code to an order."
This panel enables you to add, edit, and update a reference systems.
