Add a New Reference System
The reference system is a way to organize the diagnosis groups (a logical grouping of related diagnosis codes). For example, Order Sets is a reference system that contains the groups that are used on custom impression plan. That template is coded to look at the Common Dx Framework reference system Order Sets (custom impression plan) to pull the groups and codes. Enter a reference system name in the Reference System field. If required, enter a description for the new system in the Description field. Select a Reference system set from the picklist (for orders sets only). Select the Restrict Code check box for code restrictions. Note: This allows only one associated code for this category, only if the category is of Protocols, Office Diagnostics, or PT Exercise templates. Click the Add/Update button to save the new reference system. The reference system is added to the Reference System grid. Parent topic: Managing Reference Systems

Managing Reference Systems
Creating a group is only beneficial if it is associated to a reference system, for example, order sets. A reference system is the logical grouping of diagnosis codes. The packaged reference systems are locked down to prevent breaking the system by removing crucial data. In the Add Reference Systems section, fields are available to add new reference systems. If a new reference system is created, the system must account for existing code restrictions based on the reference system. When the Restrict Code check box is selected, the restriction takes effect and allows only one ICD-9 and 10 code. Information text displays as follows: "These categories have a maximum of 1 ICD-9 code and 1 ICD-10 code and are used to default a diagnosis code to an order." This panel enables you to add, edit, and update a reference systems. Add a New Reference System Edit an Existing Reference Parent topic: Dx Groups and Reference Systems
