Document the Contagion Risk
You can document the contagion risk.
- Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
- On a patient encounter, open any of the standard visit templates. (for example, the Intake template).
- On the template header, select the Contagion Risk link.
The Contagion Exposure template opens.Note: The exposure fields are disabled until you select an exposure from the exposure list.
- Select one of the following:
- If you want to display all the exposure details entered in the Contagion Risk template in the encounter document, select Detailed document.
- If you reviewed and updated any patient exposure details or exposure risk, select Reviewed, updated.
- If you reviewed the patient exposure details of the patient and made no changes, select Reviewed, no changes.
Note: The Last update/detailed doc field indicates when the exposure details are last reviewed and updated. - Select the type of contagion from the Exposure list.
NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically updates the Exposure and Incubation fields.Note: NextGen® Enterprise EHR fills the Incubation field, if the incubation time period to the exposure is assigned in the Custom DB Picklist system template. A list of the most common contagions is available in the Custom DB Picklist system template (few with defined incubation periods and web reference links). You can also customize and build your own list of contagions and indicate incubation periods and web reference links. For more information on how to add list items in the DB picklist (database picklist), go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest Custom DB Picklists System Template forNextGen®Adaptive Content Engine.
- If necessary, modify the incubation period.
- Enter the following exposure details:
- Enter details about the exposure.
- Enter the contagion risk level.
- Enter the state or country.
Note: If you select the country option, NextGen® Enterprise EHR automatically fills the Where field.
- If the patient traveled anywhere, enter the exposure or travel arrival date, and the departure date.
- Enter the duration of exposure in hours, days, weeks or years.
- If the patient declines to answer any contagion exposure related questions, select the Patient declines to answer check box.
- If you want to research a contagion, select the http://www.cdc.gov link.
- Select the Web button.
This action directs you to the URL that is configured in the DB picklist.
- If you want to add details about a pregnancy affected by Zika, select the Zika Pregnancy Screening link.

- Select Add.
The details you entered appear in the Contagion Exposure History grid. All entered items are flagged by default with a flag icon in the "*" column and the badge count on the Contagion Risk link in the template header increases.Note: If the Patient declines to answer check box is selected, the Exposure column in the grid displays patient declines to answer with a flag, which increments the badge count by one.
- If necessary, in the Travel History panel, document the recent travel details.
Note: In the Contagion Exposure Log panel, you can view the list of all changes made in the Contagion Exposure template.
- Select OK.
A red alert icon appears next to the Contagion Risk link on the template header, with a count indicating the number of contagion exposure risks documented.
