Cardiology

You can configure the following settings for the Cardiology specialty in the Cardiology section of the Practice Configuration template.
Practice Configuration Template Cardiology section

  • Account ID Display - You can select an option to display either the NextGen Medical Record Number generated by NextGen Healthcare or the 3rd Party Medical Record Number generated outside NextGen Healthcare on the Cardiology templates and documents.
  • Copy Cardiac Problem List to Problem List Module - You can run a script to migrate the Cardiac Problem List into the Problems module, excluding free text entries and entries that match existing Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED®) problems. You can run the script multiple times. After the script runs, the execution date and number of records affected appear in the grid for this setting.
    • If you select the Copy Cardiac Problem Date to Problem Notes option, the system copies the onset date of the problem entered in the Cardiac Problem List grid to the Notes column of the Problem List grid on the Histories - Cardiology template.
    • If you select the Copy Cardiac Problem Date to Problem Onset Date option, the system copies the onset date of the problem entered in the Cardiac Problem List grid to the Onset Date column of the Problem List grid on the Histories - Cardiology template.

You can migrate the data by either duplicating the problem into multiple entries in the Problems module (Duplicate Problems) or merging the problems together as one entry (Merge Problems).

  • Diagnosis Descriptions - This setting is available only for NextGen Healthcare clients who began on versions of NextGen® Enterprise prior to 5.8. You can select an option to display either the Billing ICD Description or User description from the Diagnosis Library when you use the diagnosis categories on the left pane of the Assessment/Plan panel on the SOAP - Cardiology template.

You can modify the user descriptions of the diagnosis on the DX User Descriptions practice template. For more information on this template, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Cardiology User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine.

  • E&M Guidelines - You can select the coding guidelines to use for E&M coding on the Finalize template. You can select either the 95 Coding Guidelines or 97 Coding Guidelines option. To use the 2021 Coding Guidelines, you must enter the 2021 Coding Guidelines Effective Date. If you enter a date, you must also select the 95 or 97 Coding Guidelines to cover visit types not affected by the 2021 guidelines or for encounters before the effective date.

Under the 95 or 97 Coding Guidelines, if the Medical Decision Making (MDM) level does not need to be selected on the Finalize template, you can select the MDM not a required component check box. For example, the MDM level may not be required for an office visit for an established patient to calculate the E&M code.

For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest E&M Coding User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine and the Cardiology User Guide for NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine.

  • Order Details - You can select the Use Order Details check box to open the order template for Cath (catheterization), EP (electrophysiology), Periph Labs (peripheral labs), and Sleep Studies when you click Add on the Procedure Order template. The procedure-specific order template for Cath, EP, Periph Labs, and Sleep Studies is used to document more information on the corresponding lab orders.
