Add Medication Inventory
The Medication Dispensing Inventory panel enables you to update medication inventory at a location. The entered medication appears in the Manage Selected Order grid and the entered lot number is accessible from the Order Management template.
- Open the Medication Configuration template.
- Expand the Medication Dispensing Inventory panel.
- Enter a medication in the Medication Search field.
You can search for a medication either by a generic or brand name. The GCN, Generic name, Brand name, Status, Medication ID, Practice ID, Medication display name, Strength, and Route fields display specific information related to the selected medication.
- For the Location field, do one of the following:
- Select a location from the Location field to link it to a specific location.
- Select Clear to make it available for all locations in your practice.
- Enter a valid lot number in the Lot number field.
The lot number entered is accessible from the Order Management template in the medication dispense section.
- Enter Expiration date from the calendar.
- Enter the number of medication units in the Starting units field.
Note: Medications that are pre-packaged, such as 30 tablets are counted as one unit. For example, an internal pharmacy purchased a bottle of Amoxicillin 500 mg capsules with a total count of 100 capsules. The normal prescription is 2 capsules a day for 10 days. The Amoxicillin 500 mg is pre-packaged as 1 package containing 20 capsules. The unit count is 1 unit per pre-packaged 10-day supply.
The Medication display name field can also be updated to identify the same medications that are pre-packaged differently. For example, Amoxicillin 500 mg 10-day, Amoxicillin 500 mg 7-day.
- Enter 0 in the Units used field.
The Available Units field calculates and displays the available medication units.
