Documenting Referral Orders

You can place or manage orders for referrals of other specialists, locations, therapies, and durable medical equipment (DME) in the Referrals Orders or Referral Management template. When a referral includes sensitive attachments, such as documents, NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Document Management images, and SAP® Crystal Reports®, the referral is marked as sensitive. You can change sensitive attachments by using the Referral Attachments template. Document Referrals for Durable Medical Equipment

You can document a referral to Durable Medical Equipment (DME) for a patient in the Referrals Order template. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open a patient's record, and then open an encounter. Open the Intake template, select the Family Practice specialty and Office Visit visit type, and then select My Plan.The My Plan window opens. Select the Referrals tab. The Referrals Order template opens. You can select the information icon to learn more about the Referrals Order template. On the Referrals tab, select the insurance provider. Enter the insurance policy number, and then select the referral type. In the To section, select DME. In Specialty/Therapy/DME, select a service item from the list. Options to Document Referrals Window To document related details, select the Additional Information link. Select No or Yes to indicate if authorization is required. In the Diagnosis section, select Description. If the patient encounter does not have a documented assessment, select Add Assessment or

You can select the Medications or Immunizations links at any time during the encounter to open the associated module. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open a patient's record, and then open an encounter. Open the Intake template, select the Family Practice specialty and Office Visit visit type, and then select My Plan.The My Plan window opens. Select the Referrals tab. The Referrals Order template opens. You can select the information icon to learn more about the Referrals Order template. Flag an Attachment that Includes Sensitive Information

You can flag an alert to an attachment that has sensitive information in the attachments section of the Referral Orders template. When you select an attachment in a sensitive encounter, this is indicated in the Attachments field on the Referrals Order and Referral Management templates with the following text: *Attachments exist – see Details (includes attachments from sensitive encounters)* When the Referrals document is generated, it prints out the text of the Attachments field.
