Manage Service Categories

In File Maintenance, you can add or remove the service items within a service category used for standing orders.

  1. Open the File Maintenance.
  2. In Master Files, select EHR under System.
  3. From EHR Master Files - System, select Service Categories.
    The Service Categories List window opens.
  4. In Service Categories List Search field, type the first few letters of the service category name.
  5. Select the desired category in the search window to display the Modify Service Category Information window with a list of service items available in the service category.

    The Key column displays the Current Procedural Terminology ( CPT® ) codes associated with the service category. The Service column lists the full description for the procedures.

    If a code appears twice in the list, then one code is in the default service item library of the current practice while the other is in a different library. A check mark in a row indicates that the code resides in the default library.

  6. To modify the service category, select the Open Record button next to the search results.
    The CPT4 Code Search window opens.

    The Included field on the right lists the CPT® codes currently available in the category.

  7. To search a CPT® code:
    • In the Search Method section, select any one of the following to refine your search:
      • All Items - Displays all the CPT® codes available in the category
      • Def SIM Lib - Displays all the CPT® codes available in the default SIM library
      • Practice Access - Displays all the CPT® codes available in the diagnosis category accessible by the current practice
    • To search for a CPT® code by Key (code) or Service (description), select Key or Service column header. The icon indicates the type of information you are searching for.
      • To display all the currently available CPT® codes in a category, type an asterisk (*) in the Available field.
      • To display the CPT® codes that begin with a specific character or string, type the character or string in the Available field.
      • To display only those CPT® codes that have the character or string anywhere in the code, select Search for keyphrase anywhere in the item checkbox.

    A list of CPT® codes that match your search criteria appears. The system lists only the codes in the current library.

  8. Select the code in the Available list, and then select the right-pointing arrow . The CPT® code moves from the Available list to the Included list.
  9. To remove a CPT® code from the group, select one in the Included list, then select the left-pointing arrow .
    The CPT® Code moves from the Included list to the Available list.
  10. Select OK to return to the Modify Service Category Information window.
  11. Select OK to return to the Service Categories List window.
  12. Select Close.
    The newly added service item associated with a service category is available for selection on the Office Diagnostics Setup and Management practice template.
