Set Up Behavioral Health SIM Codes
Behavioral Health SIM codes are set up by selecting the appropriate SIM Type and the default Behavioral Health Base Minutes for each code.
- Open File Maintenance.
- Select Libraries, and then Service Items.
The Service Items List window opens.
- From the Service Items list, double-click to open the library.
The Service Item Library Maintenance window opens.
- If you want to modify an existing SIM code, enter the code in the Search field, and then select the code from the list.
Displays existing parameters defined for the SIM code.
- If you want to create a SIM code, select Open Menu
next to the Service Item # field, and the select New.
- In the CPT4 Code field, do one of the following. This field is required.
- Enter the CPT4 code to be used on claims.
- Select the Search
button to search and select the CPT4 code to be used on claims.
Note: The code must exist in the CPT4 Codes master file. - The Service Item # field defaults to the selected CPT4 code and can be modified, if needed. This field is required.
Note: The Service Item #, or SIM code, is entered during charge posting and is not used on claims.
- The Description field defaults to the description of the selected CPT4 code and can be modified if needed. This field is required.
- On the General tab, in the SIM Type field, select Behavioral Health from the drop-down to designate the SIM code as a behavioral health code.
When selected, additional fields for Start Time and Stop Time appear for the SIM on the Charge Posting window in NextGen® Enterprise PM, and units (quantity) is calculated based on the total time entered for the charge.Note: The Behavioral Health Base Minutes field and the Custom button is enabled when Behavioral Health is selected in the SIM Type field.
- In the Behavioral Health Base Minutes field, select the number of minutes that equal one unit for the behavioral health SIM code. For example, the total time entered on a charge is 60 minutes. If 15 is selected for base minutes, then total charge units equal 4. If 30 is selected for base minutes, then total charge units equal 2. Select one of the following values:
- 15 minutes
- 30 minutes
- 60 minutes
- 240 minutes
- Use default units: When selected, the start and stop times entered for the SIM code during charge posting are not used to calculate the total units. Instead, standard unit functionality is used for the charge.
- To enter a custom value for the Behavioral Health Base Minutes field, other than the standard 15, 30, 60 and 240 values, do the following:
- Select Custom to open the Add Custom Minutes field.
- Enter a custom base minute value, between 1 and 9999, and then select Add.
- Select OK on the confirmation prompt.
The custom value now displays in the Behavioral Health Base Minutes field and is available for selection from the drop-down list for other behavioral health SIM codes.
- Do one of the following:
- To save changes and close the window, select OK.
- To save changes and set up another new SIM code, select Next.
