Modify a Service Category

To modify a service category, perform the following steps:
  1. From Master File > Service Categories, select Open Menu and select a service category. You can right-click to open the service category.
    The Modify Service Category Information window appears.

    FieldDescription
    CategoryEnter a description for the service category.
    Short DescriptionEnter a description, up to four characters, for the service category.
    Key/ ServiceDisplays the CPT4 Codes associated with the service category. It lists the standard numeric abbreviation and the full description for the procedures.

    If a code appears twice in the list, then one code is in the default Service Item library of the current practice while the other is in a different library. A check mark in a row indicates that the code resides in the default library. You can remove codes with check marks from the category. You cannot remove codes without check marks unless the matching code in the current library is removed.

  2. To modify the CPT4 Codes associated with the service category, select the Open Record button.
    The CPT4 Code Search window displays.

    AvailableLists all available CPT4 Codes in this category. Only the codes in the current library are listed.

    Enter one or more alphanumeric characters to locate a CPT4 Code in the list.

    • Select the Search for keyphrase anywhere in the item check box if you want to see results that contain the phrase you entered anywhere in the record. Then, in the Available box, enter what you want to search for. The matching results are listed.

    OR

    • Enter an asterisk ( * ) to list all the records.
    IncludedLists the CPT4 Codes that are currently included in the group.
    Search for the keyphrase anywhere in this fieldSelect to expand the search criteria to include results found anywhere within the Available list.
    Search MethodSelect how you want to search for codes:

    Def SIM Lib – search within the default Service Items library.

    Practice Access – search within the codes available through practice access.

  3. To add a CPT4 Code to the group, select one in the Available list, then select the Include button.
    The CPT4 Code moves from the Available list to the Included list.
  4. To remove a CPT4 Code from the group, select one in the Included list, then select the Exclude button.
    The CPT4 Code moves from the Available list to the Included list.
  5. Select OK.
    The Add Service Category window displays.
